But what Henri really can't compute is love. In the adventure park, Henri crosses paths with Laura, an artist with a chequered past, and a joie de vivre and erratic lifestyle that bewilders him. As the criminals go to extreme lengths to collect their debts and as Henri's relationship with Laura deepens, he finds himself faced with situations and emotions that simply cannot be pinned down on his spreadsheets… Henri Koskinen is one such individual, whose positively benign existence is shaken to its core following his being fired as an actuary, having had particular problems with the open office culture, moronic ‘inspirational’ business speak and having to interact with people- a skill that charmingly eludes Henri, Readers might think they know what to expect from Nordic noir: a tortured detective, a bleak setting, a brutal crime that shakes a small community. Finnish crime novelist Tuomainen turns all of this on its head … The ear of a giant plastic rabbit becomes a key weapon. It only gets darker and funnier' Guardian an amusement park has rollercoasters and carousels, machines that you sit in and let them toss you around. An adventure park, on the other hand, is a place where people have to move themselves. They climb and run, jump and slide. They are climbing walls, ropes, slides, labyrinths, that kind of thing.

In the adventure park, Henri crosses paths with Laura, an artist with a chequered past, and a joie de vivre and erratic lifestyle that bewilders him. As the criminals go to extreme lengths to collect their debts and as Henri's relationship with Laura deepens, he finds himself faced with situations and emotions that simply cannot be pinned down on his spreadsheets… All the while, Henri is also trying to deal with the one bit of chaos that he actually wants in his life – his interest in artist Laura Helanto has grown exponentially since he first met her and her desire to build a sculptural element into her murals in the adventure park has his heart beating all the faster. Finnish crime novelist Tuomainen turns all of this on its head … The ear of a giant plastic rabbit becomes a key weapon. It only gets darker and funnier’ Guardian una problematica che ho riscontrato anche con diversi altri autori nordici, quindi forse è proprio il loro stile che non va sempre d’accordo con i miei gusti, purtroppo. Henri kills the assassin with the rabbit's plastic ear to his heart then, in a panic, hides the body in the bottom of the freezer at the Curly Cake Cafe...

As a rule, I don’t run adventure parks, and I certainly don’t batter people to death with giant, plastic rabbit ears. Henri Koskinen is a mathematician and actuary for an insurance company. He lives with his cat Schopenhauer... A joyous, triumphant conclusion to Tuomainen’s trilogy … the comic thriller of the year' Sunday Times BOOK OF THE MONTH

as Henri is searching for another job as an actuary, he gets news that his brother Juhani has suddenly died... Hoping a hands-on approach will instil some responsibility in him, he appoints Juhani park manager. That turns out to create some unique problems, especially as Juhani fills the team’s heads with grandiose ideas and unrealistic goals, making untenable promises, completely undermining any respect Henri has gained with them. Still, Henri naively believes he can salvage the situation, convinced ”whatever Juhani had told them, the truth would prevail.” One of those rare writers who manages to deftly balance intrigue, noir and a deliciously ironic sense of humour … a delight’ Vaseem Khan I noted in my review for The Rabbit Factor that we all need more Henri Koskinen in our lives and he makes a very welcome return in Antti Tuomainen's latest slice of dark absurdity. This time it's a moose rather than a rabbit taking centre stage but with even more of the love, death and insurance mathematics that made The Rabbit Factor such a wonderfully memorable read, The Moose Paradox is another complete joy from the author described by The Times as 'the funniest writer in Europe'.
