A mucilaginous or demulcent herb is viscous and gelatinous, and thus protective and soothing to the mucus membranes and other irritated or inflamed internal tissues of the body.

The shoots of some Polygonatum can be boiled and used like asparagus. P. cirrifolium and P. verticillatum are used as leafy vegetables in India. The American species P. biflorum has a starchy root that was eaten like the potato and used as flour for bread. [4]You don’t need a tea ball or strainer because the root simply sinks to the bottom and swells up. You can chew on the swollen root bits— it won’t hurt you . These days, there are so many cafes and when coffee burst into the scene, it made it even more popular to go to a café while you’re out and about.
