For most tortoises, it is advised that a maximum period of 2 months actual hibernation plus 3 weeks before and 1 week after (totalling 3 months of no food) will allow the tortoise to hibernate safely without leading to issues detrimental to its health. Younger tortoises or for those who are experiecing hibernation for the first time, the advice is to do a total of 2 months, which includes 3 weeks of preparation, 1 month of hibernation and 1 week of recovery. Instructions for use: Reptoboost should be used at a rate of 1 scoop per 500ml of drinking water. Change the water daily and gentle rinse the reptile to wash off any residue from the skin. For recently woken tortoises bathe them in a warm solution of Reptoboost to encourage them to drink, this should be done 2-5 times a day until they begin eating. Reptoboost contains probiotic organisms which live for a short time in the gut, this helps to stabilise the pH levels so that the reptile to re-establish the correct balance. The electrolytes present aid in maintaining adequate levels in reptiles with diarrhoea (meaning they are losing electrolytes at a fast pace).
