About this deal

However, if you’re a mechanic, who’ll be using their repair stand on a daily basis, on lots of different bikes (or your a weekend mechanic who’s not particularly cost conscious), then it makes sense to spend more. There is still plenty of metal on bikes so if they're frequently exposed to rain, they're likely to corrode. At the very least, consider buying a rain cover for your bike, and if your budget, and space allow, opt for a heavy-duty secure shelter. Pay attention to the weight capacity of different repair stands too. E-bikes, cruisers and some city bikes can be really heavy. While many of the options we've included here are for internal storage, some of us just don't have the space to keep our bikes indoors and need to look for an external solution.

So how good is it? Well, The Bike Hand bench mount has pretty much the same advantages and disadvantages as the YC-100BH floor stand, to be honest. If you don’t need a portable repair stand and you have either a suitable workbench or wall space, then a mounted repair stand could be a good option. I've been using the Topeak Dual-touch with three bike mounts for years. In a laundry room with extra vertical space I can just barely fit my wife's bike, my city bike, and my sons mountain bike. As he keeps growing, and his bike keeps getting bigger, I keep adjusting the mount for his bike. He's now up to a 24" wheel though and I've still managed to fit all three. Workbench and wall mounted stands can also be divided into the more economical options that are good enough for weekend mechanics and the more durable (but expensive) stands that are best if you’re a daily user.

It’s better to spend a little bit more to get something that’s going to last many years. If you’re a weekend mechanic, you don’t need a professional repair stand. It’s OK to buy a stand that uses some plastic components, as long as it’s high quality plastic! Unless there’s a very specific reason to not go with a clamping repair stand (some people worry about the clamps damaging their carbon fibre frames), they should be the default choice for both casual and more serious mechanics. Sliding Clamps vs Claw Clamps But despite the extra stability, there’s a good reason that the clamping repair stands are more popular with professional, as well as casual bike mechanics: they're much more practical. There’s a huge variety of bike stands to choose from, ranging from the unbelievably cheap to the eye watering expensive.

Likewise, stands like the IceToolz or even the Topeak Flash Stand are half way houses that are going to be frustrating to use and will ultimately be replaced by a proper stand! On the positive side, it’s a lot less expensive than the all metal, Park Tool bench mounts (see below). The 360° rotating head is very easy to adjust. And the 1 - 2.55" (25 - 65mm) clamp jaws will accommodate a wide range a frame sizes. However, if you don’t need portability and you’ve got an appropriate space, don’t dismiss a workbench or wall mounted bike clamp. They’re more stable and cheaper than floor mounted bike stands. If you want efficiency, that's all about getting the bikes up off the floor and getting them as close together as possible, often top and tailing them so the handlebars don't clash. This is the best way to store your bike in a limited space. If you are asking about storing expensive bikes you are clearly worried about damaging your pride and joy. We understand nice bikes with nice wheels, and just how annoying a scratch can be. Store your bike at home or in the garage with this Halfords Universal Bike Stand. Specially crafted to be folded up when not being used for easy storage. The bike stand features an adjustable guide wheel, meaning that it is suitable for a large range of bike sizes. Each stand will come with link bars, meaning you can build your bike storage by adding more and more stands together for as many bikes as you own!

Most, (but not all) repair stands can be made taller or shorter. This is important if you are very tall (but less so if you’re particularly small!).

Make no mistake: this is a heavy duty, professional bike mount, that will last for years and years. Yes, it’s expensive, but if you’re a daily mechanic, working on lots of different bikes, then it’s undoubtedly worth paying the extra money for the Park Tools mount. The main attraction of the Bike Hand stand has got to be the price: it’s about half the price of the competition! To access and use all Apple Card features and products available only to Apple Card users, you must add Apple Card to Wallet on an iPhone or iPad that supports and has the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. Apple Card is subject to credit approval, available only for qualifying applicants in the United States, and issued by Goldman Sachs Bank USA, Salt Lake City Branch. The Topeak PrepStand Pro is certainly not the cheapest bicycle repair stand. But it’s probably the most stable. And it’s the only one with built in electronic scales!

So if you have a suitable post or wall (only into the stud on a dry wall!), then this could be a cost effective alternative to the workbench model. Do bear in mind that it won’t be height adjustable though, so it won’t be quite as versatile. The Worst Bike Stands On the negative side, the fact that some parts are made from plastic, raises doubts over its long term durability. This is especially the case with the teeth that hold the rotating head in position. This is a high stress part of the clamp. And it would be nice if these were metal (as they are on the YC-100ST). Secondly, it has a much higher bike weight limit of 100 lb (45 kg), which means that it will have no problems with even the heaviest of e-bikes and cruisers. Just make sure your workbench can handle that much weight! The thing that connects all these different use cases is that it's incredibly secure. I wasn't joking about the cats. I've seen them slam into the bike chasing each other through the house and it doesn't move. I've also taken pictures in crazy wind and still knew the bike in the stand was secure.
