That’s the cinematic side sorted, but what about those keen to engage in some next-gen gaming? Well, there’s bad news on that front. With no HDMI 2.1 ports, the LG A1 does not support 4K at 120Hz or VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), so those looking to get the most out of their PS5 and/or Xbox Series X will want to look elsewhere (perhaps the LG C1 OLED or Samsung Q80A) for their gaming goodness. If you're looking for a TV like no other, look no further. LG OLED TV is a work of art, a big-screen cinema, a portal to gaming worlds, and a front row seat to the biggest sporting events. It's everything you want TV to be. Size class of the display as declared by the manufacturer. Often this is the rounded value of the actual size of the diagonal in inches. HDR content tells a similar story. You’ll get eye-searing impact and brightness from the LG’s HDR Vivid mode but it isn’t strictly accurate – it’s just the brightest of the bunch. For out and out accuracy, you’ll want to opt for the Cinema preset for all HDR content. This lowers the peak brightness, though, so you may want to enable the Dynamic Tone Mapping option to get a bit more punch – or resort to the Vivid mode for the brightest rooms. Specially optimised for OLED TVs, LG’s most powerful α7 Gen4 AI processor 4K creates clean, detailed, and sharp images. Partnered with Dolby Atmos audio, immerse yourself in a surround sound experience, it will feel like you’re in the scene itself. And, thanks to Dolby Vision IQ, screen brightness, colour, and contrast are automatically adjusted for content and lighting conditions.

Dolby Vision content gets a nice brightness boost from the Cinema Home preset, though, and this is brilliant for daytime HDR viewing – it uses Dolby Vision IQ to dynamically adjust the overall picture brightness to suit the lighting conditions. The letter 'A' denotes the television series (alongside 'B', 'C', 'G', and the now-discontinued 'E' Series), while the number corresponds to the year of release. In 2019, these numbers were all '9', as in 'C9' or 'B9'; in 2020, the number became 'X' ('ten'), while 2021 is resetting to '1'. Should I buy the LG A1 OLED? LG's own dynamic range technology, HDR 10 Pro, adjusts brightness to enhance colour, reveal every tiny detail, and bring lifelike clarity to every image — it also intensifies regular HDR content. Now all your favorite movies and shows will be more vivid and vibrant from beginning to end. Much sounds similar to last year's B Series, with a step-down a7 processor rather than the a9 Gen 4 AI chip used in the C1 and G1 OLEDs. The a7 isn't quite as advanced (hence the price drop), and tends to lead to more banding and video noise in dark scenes, but it still makes for a generally favorable picture. Add to that the inclusion of Dolby Vision IQ to enhance images further by intelligently adjusting picture settings based on both the HDR content it’s showing and the ambient light of your surroundings, plus HDR10 and HLG support to boot, and the picture performance ought to be worth every penny of the entry price.

You get four HDMI 2.1 ports at the rear, all of which support 4K 120Hz inputs, and one acts the eARC channel. There is also a trio of USB 3 ports on the side, and you also get dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5. All of the wired inputs and outputs can be routed neatly to emerge at the bottom rear of the TV, and a clip-on panel keeps those wires completely hidden from view to maintain the GX’s slim profile. The percentage of the approximate area, taken by the active part of the screen, to the total front area. With the same stupendous image quality that made the LG CX so attractive squeezed into a slimmer frame, the LG GX won’t appeal to everyone. That said, once you consider the wall-mount is thrown in for free and the fact that some retailers have been discounting the RRP and throwing in free installation as well – it’s actually not that bad a deal.We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for four months in our Accelerated Longevity Test.

We uploaded the latest brightness measurements and uniformity photos for the Accelerated Longevity Test. The two key differences between the A Series and B Series seems to be that the former is a bit quieter (20W rather than the latter's 40W), and doesn't support HDMI 2.1 (a feature you will find in the LG BX, and this year's B1 / C1 / G1 models). We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for two months in our Accelerated Longevity Test. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality. The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage.
