About this deal

Fixed an issue where some buttons were assigned multiple functions (Details on the updated controls are available in the Online Manual) Perhaps the most important thing here is that the Vol. 1 in the newest compilation’s moniker suggests Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots may finally shed its PS3 exclusivity in a future collection, which would be great for accessibility purposes really. Currently, the only way to play the title is on Sony’s last-last-gen console, but it’d be nice to have it readily available on the PS5. The storyline, a whirlwind of intrigue and betrayal, has been hailed as the greatest story of the 20th century and was the third title in the METAL GEAR series to become a hit in subsequent years.

While Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, and Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge released first, some of them are no longer considered canon while others are incredibly dated. Consider playing them after you've understood the plot of the first three games. Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge wasn't worked on by series creator Hideo Kojima, so it's not considered canon. This is simply a neat inclusion from the Master Collection; the actual sequel to Metal Gear is Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, not this. Play it if you like, but you're not missing out on much. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection: What to Play First Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty ( HD Collection version) – This game depicts two different events: Solid Snake investigating a new kind of Metal Gear as part of the Tanker Incident, as well as FOXHOUND’s newest member, Raiden, taking on a group of terrorists who have captured an off-shore facility in the Big Shell Incident. This game, released on the PlayStation 2, introduced players to the character of Raiden, who inherited many techniques and ideas from Solid Snake. In addition to a first-person aiming feature, players also had access to a variety of new actions, such as holding up enemies and also disposing of their bodies. It was labeled “the best gameplay system of the 21st century.” An ultimate edition of the game called Substance was released later. This title was the fourth game released in the official history of the Metal Gear franchise.

Snake’s Revenge– This ambitious Metal Gear sequel for Nintendo Entertainment System was developed with players outside of Japan in mind. New game elements were introduced to the series, including the now-mainstay searchlight mechanic. Metal Gear ( Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom version) – A unique standalone installment that offers a fresh twist on the original Metal Gear‘s story and game system.

The most unique part of this collection is that this game now has Trophy support. For those to whom this matters, you can also get the Platinum on both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater ( HD Collection version) – The story that tells the beginning of the epic saga. It covers the events of both Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater, detailing how the man code-named Naked Snake earned the title of Big Boss. While previous games in the Metal Gear series took place in more urban settings and involved infiltrating buildings, this game is set in an unforgiving jungle. In addition to hiding in the shadows, players can use uniforms and face paint as camouflage to blend in with their surroundings. This gameplay system was expanded upon in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. An edition boasting the ultimate survival experience called Subsistence was released later. This title was the fifth game released in the official history of the Metal Gear franchise.Originally released in 1987, the first Metal Gear – directed by series creator Hideo Kojima, of course – adopted an isometric viewpoint, and was later ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System, which is the version we suspect the majority of you will be most familiar with. The sequel never actually made its way outside of its native Japan at first, but was eventually localised for the abovementioned Subsistence. Both actually represent pivotal parts of the Metal Gear plot, with the second game in particular connecting to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Released in 1998, this was the first 3D title in the METAL GEAR series. The game pioneers 3D stealth action against the threat of war and global nuclear weapons, using live action footage, cinematic cut scenes, interwoven with innovative gameplay. More than anything, revisiting the series' humble beginnings essentially functions as a virtual museum, providing you with a fascinating look at how familiar elements began and then evolved as Metal Gear made the monumental shift to 3D. Both games--particularly Metal Gear 2--feel like blueprints for what was to come, establishing the foundations for Metal Gear Solid and stealth-action video games as a whole. Codec conversations, alert statuses, enemy-identifying radar, and gameplay concepts such as crawling through vents and using sound to draw the enemy's attention were all part of the series' roots over 33 years ago. Even if you have no interest in seeing either game through to completion, it's worth at least giving them a try to see where Metal Gear got its start. While 4Chan can often post false rumours, it does have a history of posting accurate leaks, so we will have to wait and see. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2004. The prequel to the original Metal Gear is set in the 1960s, and puts players in control of Naked Snake (aka Big Boss, the antagonist of the very first game in the franchise) on a mission set largely in Soviet Russia. Metal Gear Solid 3 introduced a camouflage-based layer to the franchise’s stealth-based gameplay, along with close-quarters combat mechanics.Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel– A fully-voiced digital comic depicting the events of Metal Gear Solid through beautifully dynamic animated panels.
