Fred is Suzie’s postman so they catch him for a chat. Fred agrees that Elliot’s dad, Dudley, was a crook. Apparently Elliot was interested in rowing when he was younger but he wasn’t allowed to be on the school team. Elliot also enjoyed painting but instead of going to art school he had to stay at the auction house. Detective Malik learns that the gun used to kill Stefan was an old WW2 gun. It hasn’t been found yet. The Ending. Things went a wee bit silly in the end with a series of events that were meant to heighten the suspense and sense of peril, but it didn’t quite work for me. Her phone, handbag and Santa’s elf hat are found in a park near the River Thames. The police issue a nationwide search, but Debby is not found.

If you’re like me, you’re instantly thinking that this is a rip-off of The Thursday Murder Club. I can’t help but think that’s where part of the author’s inspiration came from. However, whether I’m right or wrong, this one is enjoyable on its own merits and so much fun! The similarities end after the basics. Read a full summary of The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood below. If you can’t remember what happened in The Marlow Murder Club and you need a refresher, then you’re in the right place. What happened in The Marlow Murder Club? The ending was surprising and fun summing up all their clues they had gathered. If you are into an old vibe mystery, this one is for you! It kept me going with their nonstop energy. Judith Potts is seventy-seven years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there's no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper.

The Marlow Murder Club" is the second book I've read in the past few months where a group of senior citizens go and solve a murder. It seems to be becoming quite a trend and I only have three words: KEEP THEM COMING! I loved "The Thursday Murder Club" and I've loved "The Marlow Murder Club". I find so refreshing to read a murder mystery with a group of unlikely sleuths and not a tormented detective! Judith heads over there and meets Antonia Webster. She’s working at the gallery before she goes off to uni. Antonia tells Judith a sus looking man came to the gallery a little bit ago. He and Stefan had a tense conversation. Judith and Antonia look up Elliot Howard and Antonia confirms that’s the man.

That brilliant captures the whole tone of this mystery, I was delightful suprised with the solution. Judith Potts is 77 years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper. One of the prevalent themes running through the book is Judith's role as a crossword setter for The Times. Robert wrote for many years - selling scripts to the BBC, ITV and independent film companies - but before 2011 the only script of his that was actually broadcast was a Radio 4 afternoon play called From Abstraction about the life of Paul Wolfskehl.

Why? Because her Doberman Pinscher drags her to shore like a dolphin. Oh, and the dog also somehow understands her and goes to save Juith when she gets to the other side. THE AUTHOR: Robert Thorogood is an English screenwriter. He is best known as the creator of the BBC 1 Murder Mystery Series, Death in Paradise. Which pleases Rob's boss immensely. Only he isn't so sure and he's determined to keep investigating.

I just knew I was gonna love Judith after her first appearance, when she goes skinny dipping into the Thames. In that moment is made clear that she's not a frail old lady and that nothing will stop her till she finds the truth. She reminded me of Miss Marple on steroids! At the end, Judith plans this (incredibly flawed) trap for one of the murderers because she knows he's going to come to her house to kill her. Robert was educated at Uppingham School in Rutland and read History at Downing College, Cambridge. While at Cambridge, he toured with the university's student comedy troupe Footlights in 1993 and was elected President in 1994. Soon after leaving Cambridge, Robert set up a theatre company that toured small theatres and schools, the highlight of which was a production of Molière's The Miser that he directed and acted in alongside Robert Webb, David Mitchell and Olivia Colman. It isn’t long before there is another murder – performed the same way and with a certain “tell” left behind. Then, a third murder – incredibly unheard of in the small, sleepy town of Marlow. But it's hinted at for the entire book that he died under more mysterious circumstances and Judith killed him. Judith goes to speak to Howard and makes up a story about him spilling her drink at the Regatta and owing her money. She asks about the argument with Stefan and he confirms it happened. Elliot calls Stefan a fraud and a liar.

Murders do not happen in Marlow! When she reports what she witnessed to the police, they do nothing until Judy investigates and finds the body. The one policewoman, new to being in charge, finds herself doubting her own competence. She dismisses the death as suicide or accidental. It is learned that he was shot with a missing antique gun. Since the police are not taking the killing seriously, Judy decides to prove the man was murdered. If you like a police procedural thriller that is accurate and gripping, then this is the book for you.’ Mandy B. I do appreciate that the author featured an older protagonist, which is a refreshing change of pace. Judith is in her late 70’s, bicycles everywhere, drinks whiskey, skinny dips in the Thames, and has a job setting crossword puzzles. She’s a great character! On one particular evening, as Judith is quietly swimming and enjoying the beauty of nature surrounding her, she hears a gunshot and sounds of distress come from her neighbor's property across the river. I’ll just get to the point – the ending was so over the top that I almost couldn’t finish it. The ending broke my cardinal rule of SHOW ME, DON’T TELL ME when we listen to Judith reciting exactly how she solved the mystery.A fun read with delightful characters, and an ending that's edge-of-your-seat exciting. I'm so glad I squeezed this one in and I can't wait for book #2 in this new series! When the body of a young woman, dressed in an elf outfit, is pulled from the shallow waters of the Thames, DCI Rob Miller of the Mets Major Investigation Team isn't unduly concerned, it's Thames Valley Police's patch.........until it isn't. I'd have though a likely murder (which is uncharacteristic for the small town) would have seen the local constabulary jump at the chance to solve... And even though he is standing in her living room pointing a gun at her he keeps acting confused and denying that he and the other 2 guys were part of a murder plot.
