About this deal

Mr Crispin is a loud mouth who thinks violence will solve a problem, Mrs Crispin is a snob and their daughter Norma is constantly chased after by men. On the other side, the Wormolds are an old couple with Harold being very doddery. They have a simple and easily led lodger, Hugh Lloyd, who works at a local aircraft factory. The two often try and make money through one of Scott's schemes. Their next door neighbours, the Crispins and the Wormolds, also make frequent appearances. Lost episodes of classic BBC programmes from the 1960s have been unearthed by a team of De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) experts and avid film collectors organising a new national film event. Synopsis currently unavailable, this episode was recovered by Kaleidoscope in December 2021. Also features Wendy Richard as Norma Crispin. Terry and Hugh are tasked with looking after a baby for the day. Trouble is, they haven't a clue how to look after it.

Terry's mother is severely ill with lumbago. There's confusion about when the Doctor arrives, and multiple meals arrive all at once, while Terry and Hugh become smitten for the district Nurse. Also features Derek Nimmo as Doctor. Hugh and I was written by John T. Chapman with additional material from John Junkin. [5] Music was by Wally Stott. [6] The first five series were produced by David Croft. 68 episodes were produced over 6 series, as well as two short special episodes as part of the BBC's Christmas Night with the Stars programme in 1963 and 1964 respectively.

All the episodes were thought to be lost until 2013 when the sixth episode was recovered. [1] (See Wiping). Note: This episode was initially scheduled to air on the 18/1/1964 but was postponed. [11] Subsequently it transmitted after 'Coal Comfort' which was originally scheduled to be shown following this episode.

All episodes from the first, fifth and sixth series were 30 minutes, while episodes from the other series were 25 minutes long. The surviving 25/30-minute episodes are indicated by their archive status, as are the two Christmas Night With the Stars specials. [10] Series 1 (1962) [ edit ] No. After cashing in on their winnings, Hugh and Terry embark on the first leg of their round the world cruise. This series follows a continuous eight part story arc. HC: Not really. I'm completely self-obsessed with my own lyrics. If I tried to interpret other people's lyrics I'd probably get it as wrong as people do when they think they understand mine. Synopsis currently unavailable, this episode was recovered in July 2017 by BBC South producer and presenter Richard Latto. Many of the collectors who own these films are elderly and have made no provision to secure the future of their prized assets, meaning we stand to lose much of the physical history and cultural heritage of filmmaking for good, particularly with digital filmmaking and projection now established as the standard.HC: Good. That's reassuring. Nothing is as simple as it seems. It's like everyone thinking Strawberry Fields was about acid but Strawberry Fields was a lunatic asylum behind John Lennon's aunt's house where he used to live. He used to nip over the wall and play in the grounds there. The song's just another song about childhood memories. People always try to make their own interpretations fit. HC: I did a solo single basically because the others wouldn't do it. We didn't go into it. They just didn't like it. HC: It's always the one I've bought most recently. The one I'm mad about at the moment is the Washburn I use for acoustic songs live. It's like a semi-acoustic but the sound-hole is filled with wood and it's got hollow bits inside it. I keep playing it at the moment. I plug it into my Hot Watt and go crazy. Ahead of this, they have announced the discovery of three classic BBC TV programmes from the 1960s. All three are currently missing from the BBC Archive:

The convention aims to put these vulnerable film treasures in the spotlight and create a support network to help older collectors ensure their films will be preserved in the future. Perhaps the best lines were reserved for Fred Emney who appeared in several episodes and is given the codename Chihuahua for 'Tea or Coffin'. A great, deluded twit in the greatest British comedy traditions, Fred Emney - looking like Winston Churchill's doppelganger here - is perhaps even more bumbling than Terry and Hugh and is one of the highlights of the episode. For some reason, I also found Hugh's feigned condition of "twinges in the Ganges" far funnier than I should have done, but even an innuendo which doesn't even make sense can still be highly fun at the right moment. Terry Scott is a youngish bachelor who wants to achieve wealth without putting in any hard work. The scheming Terry lives with his mother at 33, Lobelia Avenue in Tooting, London. The finds will be a central part of the Film is Fabulous! event, which aims to bring together film collectors from across the country, who have thousands of rare and unique original films and programmes stored in cellars and attics around the UK.

a b Both IMDb and lostshows.com indicate that there were 69 full episodes, the later source was used for the estimate of the number of surviving shows. HC: Really? Well that's great because I was in Italy with some friends and they were playing this fantastic tape and when I asked who it was they said it was Everything But The Girl. So I'm a fan of theirs.

HC: No, I've got worse. Regressed. I've gone right off playing it. I'm quite happy to strum an acoustic guitar and leave all the virtuoso stuff to somebody else. I'd rather concentrate on singing nice tunes. People keep saying to me, "What's happened to all those off-the-wall solos you used to do?" well, they were okay in a certain time but not now. Hugh finds out that Norma shares his admiration for Jazz music. One evening whilst Terry and his mother are away at a dinner party over at the Wormwolds, he invites Norma's Jazz group, the Tooting Trad Type over, so they can practise in the living room. Where the series really shows its age is in the dubious usage of race, the first episode of the series, for example which centres around the activities of Chinese thugs is entitled 'Yellow Peril' and 'Tea or Coffin' finds Fred Emney painting his skin to appear Indian which, even if it is for the purposes of espionage, would be a hard sell for modern television commissioners. However, where Hugh and I does excel is in its extensive use of Asian actors as it was an age in which jobbing Asian actors found screen time difficult to come by as Kristopher Kum - who appeared in the episode 'Five in a Bed' - described at the time: Terry discovers that the Crispins have been allowed to join his local Bowls club, so he decides to take up Golf instead.

The Artist views the world through a glass darkly, he frequently does not like what he sees. Always on the outside looking in. He used to shoot to kill with electric guitar shards, now he strums, hums and smiles a lot more. Note: This episode was originally supposed to follow the episode 'Emergency Ward', but due to the postponement of the series, this was transmitted first. As such, a group of avid film collectors, together experts from CATHI are staging Film is Fabulous! – a film event at Leicester’s Phoenix Cinema, on Sunday 29 October 2023.
