About this deal

So. I have two kids: a 12 year old intense gamer, and an 8 year old who is just not that interested. They both like this game, which is a big plus in my book. And it plays very fast, maybe 15 minutes for the 3 player, which is also a big plus because you know how it is finding time to do anything. Play continues in this manner until no penguins have any more legal moves and all penguins have been removed from the game board. Any uncollected ice floes are returned to the box. The game is about penguins trying to catch fish on the Antarctic. The game board is made of connected hexagons, each with one, two or three fish. After the game board has been built, each player chooses a colour and is assigned a number of penguins: four for a two-player game, three for a three-player game, or two for a four-player game. These penguins are then placed onto any vacant hexagon containing one fish.

Quantity of tiles is not the only important thing in Hey! That’s My Fish. Going after the more valuable tiles is usually even more important. For each three fish tile you get another player will have to collect three one fish tiles. It is unlikely that one player will get significantly more tiles than the rest of the players so if you don’t get many of the high value tiles you will probably not win.

The game play is fast and smooth. You lay out the 60 little tiles randomly in alternating rows of 7 and 8. Then you take turns placing penguins (4 each for 2 player, 3 each for 3 player, 2 each for 4 player) on 1-fish hexes. After the penguins are all placed, you take turns moving them. Penguins move, queen-like, as far as they wish in straight lines, stopping only for opposing penguins or voids in the ice. After you move a penguin, you take the hex it had been standing on and add it to your score pile. Players then start the game by placing their colored penguins on ice floes containing only one fish until all penguins are on the board. When none of the penguins are in play any more, the game ends. The player who has collected the most fish from his/her hexagons wins. Each player chooses a penguin color and takes the appropriate number of penguins of that color, depending on the number of players. Shuffle all of the ice floe tiles and arrange them in the shape of a square with all of the tiles being arranged in rows. The rows should alternate between being seven and eight ice floes long. When laying out tiles you should try to evenly distribute the two and three fish tiles throughout the entire game board. Each player takes a set of penguins of one color. The number of penguins used in the game depends on the number of players:

The game is simplicity itself to play and takes seconds to set up, in fact it took me longer to get the box open than it did to set the first game up! To start, shuffle the hexagonal ice floe tiles face-down. Then, place them face-up in a rough square shape, alternating the rows between seven and eight until you have placed all the tiles. The top row must have seven tiles. The players must choose if they are happy with the layout. If they're not, they can choose to switch the tiles to make it more evenly distributed. Allow me to give you another example of the slightest of themes: colorful penguins and fish. This could just as easily have been squirrels and nuts, butterflies and flowers, or cubes and rings.Hey, That’s My Fish! is a game for 2-4 players from Fantasy Flight Games (FFG). Players take turns using their waddle of penguins to outmanoeuvre their opponents and catch as many fish as they can without being trapped on an ice floe! Seemingly simple, your goal will be thwarted by devious penguins and an ever-shrinking game board. What strategy will you construct to bypass the competition? The player with the most fish wins the game. If there is a tie, the tied player with the most collected ice floes wins. Once all penguins have been removed from the game board, players total the fish on their collected ice floes.
