About this deal

Good afternoon and welcome to our live coverage of Grand National day, with the big race going off at 5.15pm this evening. Hemmings, the owner of Preston North End FC, died in October 2021 aged 86 and his sporting interests were passed on to his family. The winner, the third Scottish trained winner in the history of the race, is owned by a syndicate of seven people including 21-year-old student Cameron Sword and William Wallace - it would not be a Scottish syndicate without a William Wallace would it? - a Scotsman who emigrated to Australia to run a telecoms company four years ago. Grand National 2022 - approximate odds: 8-1 Any Second Now, 9-1 Delta Work, 10-1 Escaria Ten, 12-1 Enjoy D'Allen, 14-1 Snow Leopardess, 16-1 Fiddlerontheroof, Longhouse Poet, 20-1 Minella Times, Farclas, Run Wild Fred, 25-1 Bar Tizzard seeks fairytale farewell Grand National Night is a 1945 thriller play by the British writers Campbell Christie and Dorothy Christie. A racehorse owner quarrels and accidentally kills his wife on the evening of the Grand National.

His trainer Gordon Elliott, who missed last year's meeting while serving a six-month suspension after being pictured sitting on a dead horse, will have several runners for Gigginstown. Now she has a chance to become the first mare in history to have a foal and go on to win the Grand National. Last year's winner Noble Yeats is hoping to emulate Aintree greats such as Red Rum and Tiger Roll by winning the race in consecutive years.

Among his chief hopes is Delta Work, winner of the Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham in March when denying stablemate Tiger Roll a triumphant swansong before retirement. In the end, Snow Leopardess won the 2022 Virtual Grand National and while this wasn’t reflected in the actual race itself (50/1 outsider Noble Yeats taking the crown), the computer got 2nd and 3rd places spot on with Any Second Now and Delta Work respectively. Sword, who becomes the youngest-ever owner of a National winner taking the title from Bryan Burrough who was 23 when Corbiere won it 40 years ago, could not believe it. He is in his third year of four studying business at Heriot-Watt University at Edinburgh. He represents Nigel Twiston-Davies, who has won this race twice, and looks to be dangerously handicapped on his best form. He won off his current mark of 128 by seven and a half lengths in November 2021 and this is the first time he will have run off that rating since.Starter? That has probably finished him as an owner because he will never have a better day as an owner than Saturday’s. It will be downhill all the way from here. The two-time Grand National winner Tiger Roll has not been given the chance to emulate the legendary Red Rum with a third victory. Following the announcement earlier this month that all race meetings were to be postponed for the foreseeable future, the chances of the 2020 Randox Health Grand National actually going ahead were thrown into serious doubt. Nevertheless with the Grand National meeting now completely cancelled, organisers are set to use the latest technology as they look to save the day. Walsh won the National with Papillon - ridden by Ruby - in 2000 and saw Katie ride Seabass to third place 10 years ago. The bookmakers have yet to confirm whether they will be offering betting markets on the 2022 Virtual Grand National but they had little choice but to do so in 2020 when the real race was cancelled. Millions were raised for the NHS in the process.

It is 18 years since Hedgehunter gave Willie Mullins his sole National success and should Mullins win it this term, he might not even be there to celebrate, as the 66-year-old is recuperating at home after a recent hip operation. He had hoped Cloth Cap might give him a record fourth National win as an owner last April following victories with Hedgehunter (2005), Ballabriggs (2011) and Many Clouds (2015). This year we have a ‘real’ Grand National to look forward to and while the terraces and stands at the famous Aintree course will be empty and silent, the main event promises to be a real thriller once again. Nevertheless racing fans will have TWO Grand Nationals to look forward to this time around and the virtual event, which will once again include the ‘Race of Champions’, has been developed by Inspired Entertainment and will be showing on ITV4 at 8pm, Friday 9th April and again at 1pm ahead of the Grand National itself on Saturday, 10th April. This time the horse has been around five times the price and trainer Jonjo O'Neill will hope a breathing operation can help him see out the marathon trip. Clerk of the course Sulekha Varma said on Friday morning: "We're good to soft all over and we watered last night. We might catch a shower today, when we looked last night there wasn't a lot in the forecast but there's perhaps just a slightly higher chance now. They're passing showers so we'll wait and see but otherwise we'll have plenty of sunny spells."Fantastikas is now 14-1 (from 18-1) but was available at 33-1 with some firms on Thursday. There has also been noticeable support for Haut En Couleurs who is 9-1 (from 11-1) and Numitor 20-1 (from 25-1). While the 2020 Grand National didn’t take place due to the imposed Covid restrictions, the replacement ‘Virtual Grand National’ proved to be hugely popular with millions tuning in to see who would triumph in the computer-generated contest. Indeed such was its popularity, ITV will be televising another VGN on Friday 9th April 2021, just one day before the real thing. The 2023 Virtual Grand National gets underway on Friday, 14th April 2023, just one day before the real event at Aintree Racecourse. The Virtual Grand National provides the virtual world with the excitement of the real-life event and it can often give a hint as to who might actually go on to win the showpiece event on Saturday afternoon. This event is fully televised by ITV

The Irishman also won the National with Silver Birch in 2007 and is seeking a record-equalling fourth victory. We haven't really had a stab with the right horse at a Grand National. I mentioned it to dad at Christmas time and he said 'I'd have that in my name still'," he said.

Last season he joined the likes of Viking Flagship, Moscow Flyer and Voy Por Ustedes by defending the race, and the Joseph O'Brien-trained eight-year-old did it in tremendous style too. Last night, the virtual edition of the race simulated 11/2 favourite Cloth Cap getting himself into the lead on the turn for home and proving himself far too good for 16/1 shot Kimberlite Candy who finished fast. Fancied Any Second Now finished in third position while Burrows Saint and Minella Times completed the first five past the post. As such all five in the market made the frame.
