Whether or not you prefer a pared-down design is entirely subjective, but I can’t shake the feeling that Samsung could have done more here to make the Galaxy A13 stand out.
Maximum brightness is also pretty good, peaking at 483cd/m² in our tests, and the phone’s contrast is a respectable 1,082:1. The only downside is that this is a bog-standard 60Hz affair, so you’ll have to look elsewhere for silky smooth scrolling. The US version of the A13 gets a 90Hz display, but the resolution is only 720p. Samsung Galaxy A13 review: Performance and battery life Memory size - User memory is less than the total memory due to storage of the operating system and software used to operate the phones features. A budget handset will never be the last word in horsepower, but sadly this is where the Galaxy A13 really falls apart. Like the S22 series, the UK and US models differ in terms of chipset componentry, with the slightly older 5G-enabled US model (SM-A136U) getting the MediaTek Dimensity 700, while UK buyers are left with the 4G-only Samsung Exynos 850 (SM-A135F). Meanwhile, portrait images taken on the two phones couldn’t look more different. For some reason, the A13 has dialled up the contrast to a considerable degree, and you lose a lot of detail in darker areas as a result – just take a look at the hair resting on the shoulders in the bottom picture and you’ll see what I mean. The 5G model, on the other hand, is miles faster and is much more in line with its rivals. Publicly available Geekbench scores list a single-core result of around 467 and a multicore score of 1,100. That’s twice as fast as the UK version. Ouch.As with a lot of cheaper phones, the Samsung Galaxy A13 has more lenses than you might expect, but the extra ones don't do an awful lot. For very little money, you’re getting a large 6.6in IPS display, with an Exynos 850 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. And just like the newly announced A33 5G and A53 5G, this can also be expanded up to a further 1TB via microSD. A large 5,000mAh rounds things out on the inside, with supported charging speeds up to 15W. Scroll, stream, and share to your heart's content knowing A13 won’t run out before your train even arrives. When you do need a bit more juice, it's Super Fast Charging compatible, so don’t worry about being tied to an outlet for too long. The wonders of waterproofing and dustproofing have not yet found their way down to budget phones, and the A13 is no different in this regard. Get comfortable being your group’s go-to, one-person camera crew. With a multi-lens camera, you’ve got the shot, every time. Whether you’re snapping cityscapes, landscapes or family moments, "say cheese" is your new catchphrase. Network: The bandwidths supported by the device may vary depending on the region or service provider. The Exynos 850 system-on-chip inside the Galaxy A13 performs as slowly as expected. Especially when combined with the 3 GB of RAM, it performs abysmally bad with most tasks and gaming is certainly a pipe dream here. Unlike its 5G variant the Galaxy A13 5G, It only supports 4G cellular connections. The storage options consist of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB - they are certainly not anything impressive, but thankfully it's possible to expand storage for up to 1 TB in capacity with a microSD card. And finally, the charging speed is capped at only 15W and the phone doesn't come with a charger. Galaxy A13: Price UK Interestingly, even months after launch the price hasn't dropped much, perhaps because it's so cheap in the first place, so you're unlikely to find the Galaxy A13 for much less than the prices above. In terms of brands, users of Android phones have the luxury of choice. The devices of two notable companies, Samsung and Google, are hugely popular options. The Google Pixel is renowned for taking great quality photos and comes with Google Assistant and Chrome OS. Amongst Google phones are the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Google Pixel 7a which allow 5G connectivity and an incredible storage stage up to 256 GB. The range of Samsung phones is vast, with the Samsung S21, Samsung S21 Ultra 5G, Samsung S21 +5G, and Samsung A12s as their offering. We also might soon see the Samsung Galaxy A14, with a launch around March 2023 looking likely - so if you're not in a hurry then you might want to consider waiting for that. No matter the resolution, however, there’s absolutely no form of stabilisation to speak of, so while footage looks detailed for the most part, it’s going to be quite juddery.
