The grate has a porcelain coating, which is designed in such a way that there is no “fall through”. It also keeps the charcoal flames away from your food while allowing the charcoal flavor to seep through. It is designed to prevent flare-ups. Thanks to the innovative design, the Kettleman™ requires less charcoal than a standard charcoal grill. First, distribute the briquettes or charcoal evenly in the firebowl. It’s important to ensure that there are no gaps. You can alternatively pile up the charcoal or briquettes in the middle of the cooking grate and then place the food to be barbecued directly over the charcoal. To make lighting the charcoal as easy as possible, you can either use our half-time charcoal starter, a variant on a charcoal chimney, or a standard charcoal lighter. The hinged lid makes opening and closing the lid simple and fast and solves the problem of having to find a spot to place the lid when you take it off the grill. The coals are arranged in a ring around the edge of the charcoal grate and only a few coals at one end are lit.
