Not only does it provide accurate location tracking for your recorded footage, but it also allows you to review your route and speed. Connect to your mobile phone through built-in Wi-Fi, watch a real-time video preview on your Smartphone and download it if an accident happens. This is a dash cam system that comes with a main unit facing forwards and a secondary, rear-facing camera that attaches with a long cable. You can see that it's fairly low-profile - and has a reassuring blue light to confirm that it's recording.

But on the whole this is a solid system that records high-quality video in a simple and dependable way, with no distracting extras like driver assistance and voice control. The camera records these one-minute segments until the SD card fills up and then starts writing over the older videos.

I found setting this up a bit fiddly with all the wires needed to set up in car, when you can easily set up on blue tooth. Whether you're reliving a scenic drive or using footage for insurance purposes, the HD video quality provides a sharp and detailed account of your experiences. Sadly this uses unusual connectors, so it might not be easy to find a shorter one if you don’t need all the extra cable.

Once installed and linked to my phone, the unit set up without problems and confirms to the user that it is recording, and that the GPS is active. Alternatively, you can remove the memory card and browse it in a computer, but the footage itself is only stamped with the date, time and your speed. It’s not as compact or smart as Road Angel’s range-topping Ultra, and it’s not quite as easy to tuck it away in front of your rear view mirror. Our professional dash cam fitters will wire the unit so that the screen can function as a reversing camera, activating when you engage reverse. Inserting and removing these cards - and their general unreliability - really holds back most dashcams and makes them more difficult to handle, but not this one!The rear camera is waterproof and can be installed internally or externally, based on the vehicle type. Having it all on one screen at one time made the journey less ‘stressful’ and my 7-year-old in the back would remind me if I was going too fast as the speed was easily displayed on the screen of my phone! If the Halo Pro is hardwired, you can adjust the Parking Mode settings including the timing and battery levels. You can take a short segment of this portion and add titles and background music (although I didn’t try the music out). Thanks to the Halo View’s Parking Mode (hardwiring kit required) your vehicle is protected when you're away.

If the item fits, could work well but this remains to be seen, as it was would no fit the cars we have tried so far. With a new standard of quality, reliability and personalisation options, the Halo View packs a mighty punch in its compact body.
