About this deal

Of course adults can sit down with kids to explain this but I don't think it's a book that a child will appreciate as much as the adult. Furthermore, we offer that this glorious book of such strength and originality, is an ideal gift for readers of all ages. Elegant illustrations by Oliver Jeffers are accompanied by Sam Winston’s astonishing typographical landscapes, beautifully shaped from excerpts of children’s classics including Treasure Island, Little Women and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, creating a gorgeous gift book perfect for readers of all ages. New York Times best-selling author-illustrator Oliver Jeffers and fine artist Sam Winston deliver a lyrical picture book inspiring readers of all ages to create, to question, to explore, and to imagine.

A lovely book - the use of classic fiction in the illustrations sparked imediate interest I my daughter. Oliver Jeffers is the author-illustrator of many books for children, including Once Upon an Alphabet, which won a Boston Globe - Horn Book Award, and Lost and Found, which was a Nestlé Children's Book Prize Gold Medal winner. Lost and Found became Oliver's first book to made into animation by London based Studio AKA, screening on Christmas Eve 2008 on Channel 4 in the UK and on Nickelodeon in the US and Australia. His distinctive paintings have been exhibited in multiple cities, including the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Brooklyn Museum New York.As masterful as a book can be in extolling the richness that reading brings to our lives, "A Child of Books" is a glorious offering. It means, that rather like the intricacies of a pop up book such as My First Pop-Up Mythological Monsters, Sam Winston and Oliver Jeffers engineer us . In this inspiring, lyrical tale about the rewards of reading and sharing stories, a little girl sails her raft “across a sea of words” to arrive at the house of a small boy. Every one of its elements--the haunting prose poem executed in hand- lettered words; the pictures done in watercolor, pencil, and digital collage; and the objects built from words borrowed from classic stories--all work together toward a richly harmonious whole.

From figurative painting, collage and installation to illustration and award winning picture-books, Oliver Jeffers practice takes many forms. It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you.

Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. My daughter may not have loved it quite so much but it had provoked thought - I suspect she will continue to be intrigued by it. Through forests of fairy tales and across mountains of make-believe, the two travel together on a fantastical journey that unlocks the boy’s imagination. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.

There are drawings of the young girls and boy along with printed images or photographs and actual text making up pictures. In this video from Walker books, Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston discuss their new book, A Child of Books. This delightful treasure hunt through children's literature will have you digging through your bookshelves, hunting for forgotten phrases and making room among the tomes for this book. Guided by his new friend, the boy unlocks his imagination and a lifetime of magic lies ahead of him… But who will be next?Jeffers and typographic artist Winton collaborate on a hymn to the power of imagination, in which witty pen-and-ink drawings meet manipulated blocks of type, composed of passages from children's classics. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
