About this deal

This unsettling encounter unveils a darker side to Josie, revealing not only her controlling nature but also a high level of manipulation. I loved the structure of the novel, which is presented from the perspectives of Josie and Alix with transcripts of the podcast interviews (featuring Josie, Alix and several other characters) interspersed throughout the narrative.

The way that the two of them got together was creepy and unsettling regardless of the perspective, and all round he just appeared extremely passive. Her novels have sold over 10 million copies internationally, and her work has also been translated into twenty-nine languages. I finally got my turn last weekend and got through most of it over two days while I worked on the painting I’m doing for my brother’s Christmas gift (he requested “ugly art”). The smile fixes on Josie’s face as she watches Alix Summer and her big group of friends, her red-haired husband with his arm draped loosely across the back of her chair, large platters of meats and breads being brought to their table and placed in front of them as if conjured out of thin air, the sound of them, the noise of them, the way they fill every inch of the space with their voices and their arms and their hands and their words. The plot promises an intricate exploration of psychological twists and turns, ensuring readers remain hooked throughout the entirety of this compelling thriller. We were both flabbergasted when we made the discovery, it seemed extraordinary to us that we’d both come into the world on the same day and ended up doing the same job in the same very small orbit. She scattered secrets like candy pieces, which I happily gobbled up along the way, using a nice mix of detail from Josie herself, interviews with people from her past, her mother and others to provide variety and intrigue.

I felt it was too ambiguous, and was confused what kind of conclusion the reader was supposed to make.Additionally, her use of mixed media, with the sections from the Netflix series, was amazingly well done; round of applause. My inspiration for this book was taken much more from TV documentaries such as Abducted in Plain Sight, Don’t F**k With Cats, The Tinder Swindler, etc.

I believe the ending was designed to give the reader some authority over how they perceived not only the entire story, but also what happens after the final page is turned, although I would have been more satisfied with full closure. So you want to tell me that every person was defending on a pedophile and the mc's mum is viciously angry because her 16 year old daughter seduced a 43 year old man who was married to another woman but having an affair with this little girl's mum? Even protagonist Alix has her blinders on selectively throughout and doesn't exactly do her due diligence with, well, anything. Josie’s life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can’t quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. When Josie proposes she be a guest on Alix's podcast to tell the story of her life, Alix is curious about this strange woman.A volcanic eruption is quite another, for, as the journalist who does a framing voice-over na It’s a crime novel set in the Marvel universe, using the character of Jessica Jones who is a private investigator with superpowers.
