About this deal

You can unplug it and let it run, but if you do this, it will turn itself off once you stop moving, so you won’t have the luxury of knowing what’s going on with your car once it’s parked. Other than the issues mentioned above and, of course, routing the wire under the window trim to have everything look tidy, the installation was easy.

You can even put graphics on your video to help your case, such as the gradient’s angle and your vehicle’s speed. However when I tried it the sticker and camera fell off the windscreen and didn’t appear to be all that adhesive. The display on the MIOFIVE 4K dash cam is clear, but in my setup, I can barely see the camera while it’s behind my rear view mirror so it largely goes unused. Again, it could capture relatively crisp individual frames on my late night spin around a city centre block, allowing me to make out several number plates – always the sternest test given their propensity to wash out completely under headlights. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. I imported the front camera video footage into Adobe Premiere Pro to watch the up/down movement of the front camera on a frame-by-frame basis. I have had this camera installed for over a week now so thought I’d share the pros/niggles/cons that I found.

You can switch to Full HD at 30fps, too, but there’s no option for a faster frame at any resolution. After fifteen minutes of an uneventful install, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it turned out to be. The MIOFIVE 4K dash cam is a dedicated dash cam which can be an inexpensive way to have an unbiased witness riding shotgun with you whenever you’re on the road. It will drain your battery in two days if your car hasn’t moved, and the chat it gives you can get annoying.

When in Parking Surveillance mode, the U1000 saves energy by going to standby and only recording events triggered by impacts. If you witness or have an incident on a longer journey, you’ll need to remember to download the videos at a rest stop, or risk losing them. Miofive’s 4K UHD dash cam is a compact high-resolution dash cam, offering video coverage from the front of any vehicle.

During his time as Deputy Technical Editor with Amateur Photographer, as a freelancer and consequently editor at Tech Radar, Tim has developed a deeply technical knowledge and practical experience with cameras, educating others through news, reviews and features. Seven sets of the high-transmittance lens mean that daylight is filtered, and with an aperture of f/1.Moreover, the U1000 is also equipped with an upgraded Night Vision, plus a free Thinkware Anti-Glare CPL Filter. This camera doesn’t have a removable memory card, and it’s semi-permanently installed in your vehicle – you can’t clip it out of its mount, so the only way to get it out of the car is to pull its electrostatic sticker off your windscreen. This is an important addition, because 4K footage uses up space very quickly, and now with a second camera pouring data in, it's definitely something worth having.

There’s lots to like about this dash cam, such as its slimline shape, useful AI features and great daytime 4K footage. I found the setting off warning completely consistent and reliable, but over a couple of weeks’ driving I never heard the stop reminder. It won't be wide enough for some people, especially when you consider there are other options available that record in 165 degrees to cover the view to the sides of your car, too. It would have been great if the rear camera’s cable was the same diameter as the one for the front camera.Just so you know, whilst we may receive a commission or other compensation from the links on this page, we never allow this to influence product selections – read why you should trust us. That person would need to use a scraper to remove it from the glass, clean off the old adhesive from the base, then apply new adhesive so as to mount it to a different windshield. The Miofive dash cam comes with a 160-degree field of view to capture the road ahead and the traffic behind. This camera includes a small screen and some AI-powered driving aids, but it’s also rather compromised.
