About this deal

Since then she has published another twenty-one novels, most lately a number of dark psychological thrillers, including Then She Was Gone, The Family Upstairs and None of This is True. One of the final scenes is Libby receiving the funds from the sale of the house and so really there was no need to go back into the house. The true horror of her marriage played out slowly as I wrote it and went to places I had not been expecting it to go. Lucy had plans of finding a home of her own somewhere close to Libby that she, Marco and Stella could live in.

Lisa Jewell has written a spellbinding conclusion to her family drama that is surprisingly tense in places, leaving me holding my breath, heart pounding. You don't have to read The Family Upstairs as there are a lot of backstories that I think you can piece together about what happened. What are the similarities and differences in the ways Henry and Lucy Lamb deal with their past traumas? We also have a bag of bones discovered by a mud–larker in the Thames which connects to the house of horrors that has since been sold off to a new owner. This was officially one star when Henry and Lucy reentered the UK with their fake passports AFTER Interpol had located them and they were questioned by the police.

I really enjoyed the police investigation sections and thought those new characters were a fantastic addition. This is going to sound weird, but even though this was an engrossing read, with top-notch writing, I don’t think a sequel was really needed. Forensic testing reveals that the bones are connected to a decades-old cold case that left three dead in a Chelsea mansion. There are many characters, but Google helped refresh my memory regarding the plot/spoilers in the first book (that I read a few years ago).

Also inside the bag is a trail of clues, in particular the seeds of a rare tree which lead DCI Owusu back to a mansion in Chelsea where, nearly thirty years previously, three people lay dead in a kitchen, and a baby waited upstairs for someone to pick her up. Do you think Phin is right to fully blame the adults, or do you think Henry is responsible for some of the harm that occurred in the house? The second most challenging aspect was not being able to tinker with the first book so that it would fit better with things I wanted to do with the second book!

I feel sad to say goodbye to this cast of characters, because as dysfunctional as they are, they make for SUCH good reading! Struck by her utter ordinariness, Alix decides to see if she might make an interesting podcast out of what looks like a very small and uninteresting life.Along with Miller, it was her job to find out what had happened at the house on Cheyne Walk, to uncover its secrets and rediscover her family.
