I think WIlson has used her strengths well in this book and has really gone to town with the idea of the twins losing their mom and being like chalk and cheese (Completely Different) ! I always thought the point of Double Act was that the prospective step-mother, Rose, is A Nice Person After All, and that that was what the reader was supposed to discover along the way with the twins. Publishers Weekly described it as "an unexceptional mix of familiar plot devices" and recommended it (or did not) for readers age 9 to 12. In 2002 Jacqueline was awarded the OBE for services to literacy in schools and from 2005 to 2007 she was the Children’s Laureate. It still had some appeal, mostly because it tells about twins and some of the thinks did apply very well to me and my sister as well. Ruby is bossy, lively and brilliant, and Garnet is more meek and mild, but very kind and incredibly caring and careful. This book again showcases Jacqueline Wilson’s talent for writing children’s books that address serious subject matter in a way that a child would connect with. Things are left off here and for good reason; if Rose suggests palming Ruby off to a stage school, even the self-absorbed Richard may start to notice something.

Double Act is about 2 twins and there mum died when they where little and they live with their dad and Nan. She has been awarded a number of prestigious awards, including the British Children's Book of the Year and the Guardian Children's Fiction Award (for The Illustrated Mum ), the Smarties Prize and the Children's Book Award (for Double Act , for which she was also highly commended for the Carnegie Medal). When the twins run off to the audition on their own, he gets there just in time to put a spanner in the works. This is a book that maybe mainly appeals to girls, but also towards chikdren who may be experiencing divorce. In my opinion this is a portrait of modern families narrating the positive and negative stages of two teenagers.

Ruby dreams of being an actress one day and sees an add in a paper for twins to take part in a commercial held in london, however Garnet dosent want to persue a career in showbiz, she prefers to studying. It is about twins named Ruby and Garnet, Ruby is quite bossy and confident while her sister Garnet is quiet and shy. After making friends with someone she previously considered rather a bully, Ruby starts to realize that she and Garnet don't need to be the same, and don't have to do the same things, to be happy. I love how it’s almost written as if both characters are writing the story in some parts, while in others its as if your looking down into their lives.

I love the storyline, the problems between the two twins and how their different personalities still make them unique. The storyline was, as I said, predictable, but I am not a pre-teen and so in that context the predictability doesn’t matter.
