About this deal

Battler Britton has featured in Air Ace and Thriller picture libraries, annuals, holiday specials, graphic novels and more. Great stories and all for such an amazing charity, helping so many serving and former Royal Marine Commandos. His television credits include presenting Channel 4's Journey to the Centre of the Earth (the science behind Jules Verne's novel), Discovery's Rebuilding the Past (an attempt to recreate an Iron Age settlement) and Five's Great Ocean Adventures, for which he was also the author of the accompanying book.

This was also published in another edition by Seven-Oaks which featured the same 12 stories but with different cover-art and a different title:- Commando: The Best 12 Aussie and Kiwi War Stories Ever. Ireland is known as the land of a thousand welcomes, but most people aren’t aware of its sixty unbroken years of Peacekeeping duty with the UN and even less know of its elite special forces unit known as the Army Ranger Wing (ARW). The last issue to feature the former title was issue 2690, Password to Freedom, published in August. With unique insight and authority, Commando captures the essence and heart of this revered military unit then and now, exploring their role patrolling the high seas and policing coastlines around the globe, and revealing their rich history and what it means to win and wear the legendary green beret. I served for seven years in the Irish Reserve Defence Forces, finishing as a weapons specialist in the infantry.

ANZACs At War (783 pages, August 2007, ISBN 1-84442-059-0) This anthology contains a rare issue set in the Vietnam War. He will tell the story in book and film of the fears and hopes of the youngsters as they are plunged into one of the planet's most dangerous wars in the outlaw mountain terrain of Helmand Province. Brigadier Durnford-Slater raised and trained the first Commando unit in 1940, and Commando tells the brilliant story of an outstanding leader and some of the most courageous exploits of the Second World War. Doing it this way means that dads of all parenting abilities and with varying levels of exposure to children understand the messages the book is trying to put across. In the chaotic last days of the war, a small troop of battle-weary American soldiers captures a German spy and makes an astonishing find—his briefcase is empty but for photos of beautiful white horses that have been stolen and kept on a secret farm behind enemy lines.

I started hiking up mountains as a teenager to get in shape for winter, but I soon found climbing peaks to be as rewarding as skiing down them.Simply put, this book is both a nice read and an important source for understanding the early Commandos and their fighting methods. There was a misunderstanding from me when I first got the toy as I didn’t see additional pieces, but the seller quickly told me they were in a hidden compartment in the toy. Monty's love for the Royal Marines and admiration for the characters interviewed for the book (and BBC TV series) jumps out from the pages and his writing style draws you into a very special read. The home of heroes covering land, sea and air, Commando heroes hail from around the world, war and conflict providing the backdrop to tales of comradery and friendship in the face of adversity!
