About this deal

Deacon Blackfire and his cult make their debut in adapted media in Batman: Arkham Knight, voiced by Marc Worden. But there's really no urgency at the end, Blackfire's not threatening to blow up the city, he's just sitting around waiting for Batman to show.

Batman: The Cult is a 1988 four-issue mini-series written by Jim Starlin, illustrated by Bernie Wrightson, colored by Bill Wray and edited by Denny O'Neil. I particularly enjoyed a number of sequential panels Wrightson does, for instance after Batman’s been shot and he’s trying to get up, instead he literally falls to pieces. It begins with Batman abducted, a prisoner of charismatic Deacon Blackfire and his subterranean band of homeless followers. Also, upon seeing a woman that was running to him for help get ripped apart by a wild mob, he sits in the Batmobile/monster truck and listens to her die (he says something about it seeming to take a million years) rather than help her. Interestingly, The Cult also features Jason Todd as Robin and is most likely the only Todd trade outside of A Death in the Family.Matina: Yeah, unfortunately I found myself skimming many of the “talking heads” scenes, after a while they’re simply not engaging anymore. It wasn’t until I was a few dozen pages into the story that I realized Christopher Nolan had used this as the basis for The Dark Knight Rises. Deacon Blackfire, charismatic shaman with roots as old as Gotham City itself, seemingly uses the city's homeless to fight crime. Torn Apart by the Mob: Batman defeats Deacon Blackfire by denying him the death he's asking for at Batman's hands, instead beating the crap out of him until Blackfire is begging for mercy.

His gritty, noir-ish take on Batman was what fans wanted at the time and with this story, he would once again deliver. The thermoplastic complies with the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2019/904 of the European Parliament and of the Council on reducing the impact of certain plastic products on the environment. Starlin makes certain we catch every moment of Batman's indoctrination into the cult, for the explanation of how Batman's will is being worn down to the Dark Knight's vivid hallucinations. Given the popularity of Frank Miller’s vision, it was no surprise that DC sought to integrate certain elements into regular continuity. The leader of this cult is one Deacon Blackfire, a charismatic sociopath working under the guise of wanting to rid Gotham of evil because God instructed him to. He is in the clutches of Deacon Blackfire, a charismatic religious leader who has assembled an army from the homeless of Gotham. However, the issue of whether Deacon Blackfire really is an eternal remnant of the original Native Americans or is merely power crazed is a distraction that The Cult could stand without. I’ll probably continue to go back and forth on how I feel about this book and while it’s got its problems, it is something I would read again. One of the Underworlders by the name of Ratface takes Batman to the surface on an unauthorized attack on a civilian.
