Final thoughts: The Mystery Machine is the perfect introduction to the Scooby Doo theme and one of those rare flawless LEGO sets. I went about correcting that issue, at first using extra pieces, but after several test configurations, I found that no extra pieces were needed. I'm assuming that the tree and zombie were actually featured in a specific episode of Scooby-Doo but it's not an episode that I can remember all these years later.

Avoid getting trapped in the branches of the spooky tree and jump into The Mystery Machine to get away. The Zombie has a shabby (although not tattered) outfit which looks more like a hobo’s wardrobe than someone who has risen from the dead. Fred and Shaggy’s faces are generic looking enough that they could easily be reused in other minifigures.

The Mystery Machine is definitely a set where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts (I give the set a 9 overall despite none of the individual rankings being a 9 or higher). The lobby is home to a giant wall of minifigures but even more impressive than that is a large LEGO-esque castle in the back of the lobby which doubles as a play area for children. Eight stickers on each side of the van should be a sign of just how many stickers get used in this model, though as I said, the stickers are a necessary evil here as look how great that van looks when stickered up! Also take note of the items dimensions in the description so that you are aware of what you are getting.

This is a great set BUT the American set comes with a cardboard Fred hair piece on a stick and blue collar with orange neckerchief so that you can pretend you are Fred – the UK version does not and ours works out to be more expensive than the US version.
