About this deal

Today we’re looking at the other, less-heralded rules in the box: The Spec Ops campaign rules for Chalnath. GW gave us yet another look at the new Tau and Sisters of Battle models from the new 40k Kill Team: Chalnath box set. The stars of the show are the kill teams themselves, with the new Adepta Sororitas Novitiates squaring off against an upgraded squad of T’au Pathfinders. I’m also not convinced the build guide for the larger bits of terrain is correctly numbered throughout – but by the time I finished building the kit, it was 11PM on the night of release day and I had completely lost track of where I was and what I was doing. I don’t think either of these are unique to this box (the Sisters one definitely isn’t – I’ve got about ten of these lying around), but I’m happy to be corrected if I’m wrong.

I spent quite a few words in our Kill Team: Octarius review going over some of the big changes that came hand-in-hand with the new edition of Kill Team, so won’t do so in any great detail again here. This past weekend we talked about the box contents and new kill team rules in Kill Team Chalnath, showcasing the exciting new Sororitas Novitates and Pathfinders kill teams. If you like what we’re doing here you could really help encourage more content with a share on any social media platform. Wrapping up the T’au, like the Sisters, you’ve got unique rare equipment, Strategic Assests and Requistions.

The T’au Pathfinders are already incredibly versatile, but the Earth caste has outfitted them with a ton of new gear. The one thing that really threw me, though, was that you are required to actually break off several parts of moulded scenery. Several of these have bonus rewards depending on whether you’re currently undertaking a specific Spec Op; Secure the Relics sees both teams racing to grab and secure a number of sacred relics (objective markers) on the table. Sanguinius faced Fulgrim and won, Dorn charged Horus Ascended…and soon regretted it whilst Sigismund took not one, but two heads (Eidolon and Abaddon). However, I find 1-3 are the ideal uses, with 4+ being too situational and easy to deny by the opponent as they can simple just move that operative out of visibility during an activation.

Win the mission as the Defender and if you’re undergoing the Recover Archaeotech or Extraction Spec Ops and you can reduce the number of games needed to complete the Spec Op by 1. It’s also worth mentioning that the terrain sprues inside this box appear to be the same exact configuration of sprues from the 2018 Kill Team Starter Box release as well. The scenery is impressive, even if it is the standard 40K affair of wrecked buildings and tumbledown walls, and will no doubt be featured in promo photos for other Warhammer 40,000 releases for years to come. Compared to the last Kill Team expansion, so far Chalnath feels like a big step in the right direction – even if it is more expensive. Of course, the majority of the book is dedicated to actually getting you pushing figures across a board and slinging dice over a table top, but everything is broken down into a comprehensive and well-structured format.

This is the paperback Kill Team supplement originally found in the Kill Team: Chalnath boxed set, now available on its own. For these types of items we have to use a courier service and in this case the cost will vary depending on size and weight etc.Who will be victorious: the zealous followers of the God-Emperor, or the scions of the Greater Good? The short answer is probably no, well unless you have to have those new minis for your Sisters or Tau. Already… Pitting the might of the Adepta Sororitas Novitiates against the hyper-advanced tech of the T’au Pathfinder Squad, Chalnath is set to become a battle of faith and fire. Costing 1AP, you can light up enemy operatives and depending on how many Markerlight counters they have on them, you gain benefits, much like how they work in the T’au Codex for 40K. What better excuse is there to finally paint all the boxes of scenery you’ve got sitting around untouched?

The first expansion to the new Kill Team system sees the Kriegsmen and Orks replaced with the Emperor’s most zealous followers, the Adepta Sororitas, and the blue-skinned advocates of the Greater Good, the T’au (or is it just Tau without the apostrophe these days? Some of my friends’ elder brothers introduced me and my buddies to 40K and they all snapped up their respective factions very quickly: Space Marines, Orks and Tyranids were instantly claimed by the siblings of the elder brothers who had initiated us into the 40K cult, and Chaos Space Marines and Eldar disappeared shortly after. You start off with 3 each turning point, the points listed in the box to gain additional points are locked to narrative play. Your Recon drone counts as 2 choices, but you always take it and you still have 10 other operatives to use.Prototype weapons, advanced bionics, and sophisticated drone control systems ensure they always have the right tool for any job. These are pretty basic, and I hope they get published elsewhere for Kill Team players to get there hands on them, as they are currently locked behind a box that to be honest will only be of interest at this point to those who want the minis at this point. com for more on Kill Team: Chalnath coming later this week, where we’ll be lifting the lid on the rules for each team and rooting through the ruins of Vedik for a closer look.
