About this deal

I can't recommend enough, perfect for if your interested in Gin, history of gin, just history in general or you just like a good drink! The information given during the tasting and tour was excellent and lighthearted making it great fun. Fentimen’s floral flavours work beautifully with our juniper and citrus notes, creating a crisp and refreshing drink.

Anne Brock at the Bermondsey Distillery in my book Gin: The Art and Craft of the Artisan Revival, now available in 3 (and soon to be 4! I prefer my Jensen Bermondsey Gin martini served 5:1 with a lemon twist, but the softness of the botanicals suit nearly any style from the Churchill Martini (it’s just chilled gin folks) to the trendy Very Dirty Martini with copious amount of olive brine.we found some batches of Jensen's Gin disappointing, not living up to the first spectacular 2005 bottling. Jensen’s has been designed to replicate the old-style London gins from the heyday of the gin cocktail and is one of the only small-batch London Dry gins actually produced in London. But if you care more about the quality of the product than the thing that contains it, this is for you. With heritage dating to the 1830’s, distilling of Jensen’s Bermondsey London Dry Gin and Jensen London-Distilled Old Tom Gin takes place in a small distillery in railway arches near London Bridge which is open to the public for tours on specific days. Celebrating the flavours of vintage gin from London’s lost distilleries, you and a guest can go on an after-hours tour of The Bermondsey Distillery, home to Jensen’s gin.

Perfect balance, a lovely mouthfeel, and a modernized classic botanical expression make it an intriguing gin in the sense that it-could-have-been-made-like-this-over-a-century-ago sort of way. The recipe uses a greater number of botanicals than the London Dry with the emphasis on the lower spice and root notes.

Home cocktail fans will find that it does everything from the Negroni to the Aviation, while still doing a whispery Gin and Tonic that is quite refreshing as well.

However, Chris Jensen is celebrating the more decadent side of this historic spirit, by recreating a traditional London Gin at his distillery in the heart of Bermondsey. Using bottles of rare, precious bottles of gins from distilleries no longer in existence Christian and Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers nosed these complex spirits extensively, accounting for aromas lost over the decades in bottle. Angus our tour guide was truly amazing, really knows his Gin, loved hearing about, and smelling, all the botanicals that they use. There may be less juniper in the batch, but because the gin lacks earthy, rooty aromas, it allows the other botanicals to rise higher and shine a little brighter.

Will not readily appeal to those who are attracted by fancy labels and fancy bottles, which seems ro be the majority of gin drinkers these days. Jensen's achieve this authenticity by not using any botanicals that would not have been found in the 18th Century. As an alternative to tonic, combine our Bermondsey Dry with Fentimen’s Rose Lemonade, lemon wheels and plenty of ice. This expression is a London dry gin, boasting a host of traditional gin botanicals built around a solid core of juniper, though those other botanicals do get their fair share of attention. I find the aroma has subtle notes of pine, eucalyptus and juniper, but it’s almost slightly soapy, too.Towards the end of the taste, there’s a subtle licorice note as well which adds a perceived sweetness and softness.
