The slight softening of the image around the edges of the frame and within it as a result of the anamorphic process employed and those custom lenses seems perfectly apt for the period and isn’t as obtrusive at all as one might suspect. Throw in the addition of digital grain and the film’s visual aesthetic is as stylised as the film itself. The story here is told from a very unique perspective with narrative all throughout from the view of Elvis’s infamous manager “Colonel Tom Parker” (portrayed here by Tom Hanks).

The 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray release comes with pretty much top notch picture and audio quality and a nice host of extras to make for a solid package for a modern film. It’s very much a specific style of film, both from Luhrmann’s own sensibilities and its stance on its narrative approach, and one that will alienate as many as it draws in, but certainly for this reviewer, this was an exhilarating and dazzling reminder of Elvis’s enduring legacy. Anniversary Studio Collection pulls together ten classic films from three eras in Hollywood - Classic Hollywood, New Hollywood and Modern Blockbusters - and serves them up in a lavish set with impressive packaging, booklets and memorabilia. Based on my observations via my 4K UHD Blu-ray player, this runs bitrates as high as 85 to 100Mbps roughly what I saw it peak at.
