Synopsis: The film tells the story of the decline and fall of the Western Roman Empire, focusing on the reigns of the emperors Marcus Aurelius, Commodus, and Pertinax. When I did start to read the book I learned that events in the beginning of the book were at the end of the movie, and events in the middle of the movie were at the end of the book. I was linked to this from another blog, and I have to say, I find it very… unreliable when anyone recommends something they haven’t seen yet. Turns out I was craving sensory overload from something that wasn’t a superhero movie (although the beginning of the film actually frames Elvis as a superhero whose power is music), and I honestly just had a good time watching Austin Butler croon and wiggle his hips before a crowd of shrieking, lusty white women whose libidos erupt one by one like kernels of popcorn. What begins as a thrill ride becomes a nuanced addiction drama, with Washington playing Whip’s descent into darkness with genuine pathos.

These portrayals offer us a window into the lives, ambitions, and challenges faced by those who once walked the cobbled streets of this mighty empire. The film captures the political and societal dynamics of the era while presenting a dramatized narrative. The movie is based almost word for word on the book, “Killer Angels,” but seeing it on the screen made it better. The image presented in the film is very poignant in some scenes, especially when it comes to alcohol abuse and domestic violence. Pompeii" draws inspiration from the real-life eruption of Mount Vesuvius and captures the essence of Roman society and the impending catastrophe that befell Pompeii and Herculaneum.Better than 2, holy fuck Amanda is awesome in this one, definitely my favorite part of the movie and I love her and John's whole thing. From the monumental structures of the Forum to the awe-inspiring Colosseum, cinematic Rome representations have transported audiences to the heart of a bygone era. I think in general, unless a movie is made from really mediocre text material and then is considered to be objectively much better, than whether a movie is better than a book comes down to a few factors.

The movie added some really fun and beautiful scenes, but didn’t quite capture how all the story lines came together at the end of the book.It doesn't hold back on portraying the brutality and harsh conditions of Roman Britain and immerses viewers in the unforgiving landscape and the brutality of ancient warfare.

Though I adored Gone With the Wind as a teenager, both the book and the movie, as the years went by began to feel “gasp” shallow. It invites viewers to contemplate the clash between reason and faith, the pursuit of knowledge, and the sacrifices made in the name of discovery. The film's depiction of Roman society, politics, and the grandeur of the era provides viewers with an immersive experience that resonates with the spirit of the times. The Logan twist sucks shit, he was actually fine before this but once the twist happens he's a completely different character and a shit one at that. The cinematic history of Rome is a rich tapestry woven with tales of emperors, warriors, and everyday citizens, each contributing to the ever-evolving narrative of this ancient world. Haven’t seen all of the films or read all of the books on the list, but I completely agree with “The Devil Wears Prada.
