An episode of the PBS Kids American-Canadian television series Arthur featured an episode titled "Caught In the Crosswires" in which the character Muffy Crosswire, who is extremely wealthy, shouts at her butler, Bailey, for hanging her clothes on wire hangers. In her will, she did make sure to omit both Christina and her brother Christopher “for reasons they knew,” leaving everything to her twin daughters Cathy and Cindy and to charity. Christina was successfully adopted in 1939, Christopher in 1943 and the twins four years later in 1947. What a privilege it is now to release this ebook edition, complete with photos from my personal collection and one hundred pages from the original manuscript that were never published until the 20th Anniversary edition in 1998.Christina claimed that Joan's controlling behavior continued throughout Christina's adulthood, asserting that Joan was jealous of Christina's acting career in the 1960s, to the point of taking over Christina's role in the soap opera The Secret Storm while Christina was in the hospital recovering from an operation to remove an ovarian cyst. She said, "Since you're SO determined to wear your (expletive) coat to class, you can wear THAT-- and NOTHING else! As the author grows, there is a dynamic she has with her mother as a teen that I remember classmates having when I was a similar age.
