Launched by The Heaven Hill distillery based in Bardstown, Kentucky in 1986 and named after a Baptist preacher from the late 1700s who many claim to be the founder of Bourbon (many also know that the legend is often better than the truth!

However it happened, Elijah Craig is credited with being the first distiller to age his Whiskey in charred oak barrels. My wife likes a small nip each evening now and we both agreed that this is Christmas pudding in a bottle.

But it was his gift as a distiller and entrepreneur that establishes his place in history as The Father of Bourbon. In 1935, shortly after Prohibition ended in the United States, Heaven Hill Brands was founded in Bardstown, Kentucky by the Shapira family. The charred barrel transformed the clear liquid inside into an intense amber whiskey made rich with the flavors of the wood which we now recognize as Bourbon and the use of charred oak barrels has been written into Bourbon law.
