About this deal
This is definitely not a headphone for bass-heads, but neither is it th e most lean bass presentation that I've heard. With a stunning sense of timbre the guitar sounded beautifully textured and the subtle soundstage is treated with great finesse.
Under that is a much thicker and denser black cotton material glued to the center to offer some dampening. On the other hand, I didn't care about some of the usual preferences such as portability, usability without amp, or sound leaking.
Dt880 will profoundly disappoint anyone serious about their quest for natural, balanced and rich sound. Any negative effect is mostly emphasized by lesser quality and less powerful amplification, connect it to a good amplifier however and the presence can very much impress. Beyerdynamic deserve a lot of credit here, it might seem like a couple of simple boxes ticked but if you've tried lots of headphones you will know how many miss this mark. Pressure on the top of the head is very well spread out, no spaces on the top of the head can be seen with them on.
Premium versions have specific ‘rail’ to stabilize and control the yoke when user shortening/elongating them. Of course the quality is better, but volume issues were equally as bad as portables and worse than plugging directly in to a computer or laptop. I love listening to music on headphones, I think it is the second-best way to immerse oneself into the music, to get isolated from the "world" around.Introduced in 1980, the DT 880 is a semi-open design, ideal for mixing and mastering according to Beyerdynamic. With the DT 880, you'll hear everything, including conductors singing along, breathing, page turns and seat creaks. If so, at 1 volt, this would be 111 dB for the 32 Ω version, 102 dB for the 250 Ω version and 98 dB for the 600 Ω version. I prefer single sided cables for one reason, it's another easy way to tell which side is which in the dark.
The DT 880's neutral spectral balance is from the professional monitoring market, and less like boosted home hi-fi headphones. The Beyerdynamic DT 880 and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO are similarly-performing headphones for critical listening. I do wear glasses and can experience pressure on the top of the ears sometimes, but this was never an issue with the DT 880. Driven from a high quality amplifier and the treble sparkles with the best of them and renders an articulate performance. The generous padding on the headband can be removed and replaced or cleaned easily by undoing the button clips, another feature not available on the DT 990.Moreover, due to its tuning, bass quantity can be scarce for some making it feel quite anemic however that is not in my case as I do really quite like the presentation of the bass that is less boomy but tight and fast. They have a durable build, and they're decently comfortable, but they're a bit cumbersome to carry around without a bag.
