The narration switches between the Mother and the Daughters' perspectives, interspersed with letters from the Grandmother. Daughter narrates the majority of the book, the contours of her own life weaving in and out of the stories she's heard from other family members.

In BESTIARY, K-Ming Chang pays homage to earlier Asian American brilliance while innovating and pushing up against its boundaries.
