Burkett Expects to Slug His Way to Top of Eastern Heap,” Hartford (Connecticut) Courant, April 20, 1924: 38. The plot is basically: men can sleep around & it’s cool. Women have to cater to men & wait until he’s ready to commit. Marley literally gets treated like a doormat for 98% of the book. She accepts whatever Hunter says or does because she "has a good heart, god bless her". Hunter treats her like she's a 10-year-old, calling her Bambi ("because she has big eyes"), Minnie, saying she's half his height, that she has small feet and other cringe-worthy things. He treats her like a dog but does not allow, from day one, any other man to approach her or go out with her. He, on the other hand, continues to sleep with other girls (whom he treats as mere sexual objects) almost until the end of the book. I especially was not a fan of the drunk driving in this. It wasn't just a one time occurrence, it was a daily and intentional act that spanned 4 years. The fact that everyone in that town tolerated it?! And not once did the bartender take away his keys? That kind of behavior is not okay. I don't care if he is still grieving or whatever, putting your life AND other's lives in danger is not right. Nothing feels earned and none of it is convincing. The plot and the relationships especially. I hate the “I can fix you” mentality that plagues the heroine. It’s so exhausting. This book just does not deserve the amount of energy it takes to get through it.

star, I blame tiktok for making me read this book. I was really curious to read it but ??? it's not worth it. The MC, Marley, should might as well hold a sign saying “I’m a door mat” since she loves getting stepped on.First, Hunter is a tool. Literally found zero redeeming qualities about him throughout the entire book. His entire personality is drunk driving & using women as toys. He decides he hates Marley on sight simply because she’s from NYC? He is straight juvenile & rude. He demeans & insults Marley constantly, without even knowing her. He’s a total jerk to his stepmother for absolutely no reason & is so self centered it made me cringe. i stopped reading around halfways (for the safety of the other hundreds of passengers on that boat ok) and that man was still describing in details about his encounters with other women whilst the FMC was just like 🥰😍🥰 its ok bby i kno ur troubled I went into this book with really high hopes, and was very disappointed. If you like A LOT of ow drama & a doormat FMC, this one might be for you.

AGAIN- I have to reiterate- The marketing of this book. I think if it would have been marketed more like an “Ugly Love” by Colleen Hoover, I wouldn’t have had such a visceral reaction to all of the atrocities Hunter commits but because it was marketed(on TikTok by the author) as this great love story, it was so disappointing. The author made it seem(on TikTok) like we were getting this amazing book boyfriend who stands up for our heroine against this awful ex but that’s not what happens. Her whole marketing plan was only derived from the last 20% of the book and seems really manipulative now. Devon is a fan of Lane's work and shows some desire to specialize in oncology. He becomes embroiled in the plan to expose Lane when Nic shares her discoveries of Lane's insurance fraud scheme that includes over-treating her patients and falsifying cancer diagnoises.Hunter... okay, I know this is apparently based off of true events but I was not a fan of his character. Most of the book is about him and OW (other women). John Hunter, Thomas Lane, and Vivek Jampala have spent the bulk of their legal careers collaborating together on criminal cases. Despite working for separate offices, it was seldom that one of these attorneys would try a case, litigate a motion, or pursue an appeal without the help and input of the other two. In their early careers, they routinely worked in concert with one another to draft briefs and motions for many of South Texas’ finest criminal defense attorneys, granting them valuable insights from experienced professionals and helping them stay on the cutting edge of criminal defense practice. one thing i hate more than… peas. or the texture of broccoli. IS DOORMAT WOMEN AND HOE-ING MEN. guess what this book had? 😠 GUESS 😠 I sought out validation from people who didn't like me. I gave second chances to people who didn't deserve it. I turned a blind eye to manipulation because I mistook it for affection."

I was really excited for this book and I had been anticipating it ever since the author popped up on my fyp on tiktok. I was hyped.

Visitors' opinions on Hunter Lane Cafe

Now for the heroine she was perfect and I really loved her and If we take away all the ow drama the book was literally perfect im sad she ruined it with her owns hands because him being with all these ow did nothing to bring more love or romance to the book. It just ruined everything I didn’t even enjoy them kissing and having sex because he went to see her only a couple of hours after he had a threesome.

Lane was Conrad's mentor before he became a resident. In Identity Crisis, it is revealed that she had done a lot for him in the past. However, not much is known about their relationship. Their relationship begins to deteriorate once Nic discovers that Lane is over-treating her patients. Which brings me to another problem I have with this book: Marley. I disliked this character so much! She was not compelling at all, and she was so... bland. Whenever Marley had a problem, she would either run away, or cry. When she called the cops on Hunter for driving drunk... she apologized to him later? And when she had made the decision to leave, Hunter shows up on her doorstep with a half-hearted apology. And she forgives him, on the spot, and then sleeps with him? It felt like Marley was not a person, she was just subject to Hunters whims.Randolph and Lane are close friends. At the end of Haunted, they share a kiss in his office. In And The Nurses Get Screwed, Lane and Randolph work together to fire Claire Thorpe and Nicolette Nevin. Overall the book has some decent ideas and has some things that I thought were super cute. I loved Hunter buying our FMC, Marley, Starburst and playing games to get her to eat the candy, knowing she restricted herself for years (and still does) due to her upbringing with her parents. After they kissed for the first time the rest of the book is basically all s** scenes and absolutely no character development. He just stopped drinking even though he had a serious drinking problem all bc he’s dating her? And their relationship just simply worked with no issues even though they both have incredible amounts of issues??? m sorry but I was really excited for this book and I was so happy when I finally found out it came out but reading it really let me down. She was offered the position of Head Oncologist, but she turned it down, as she was busy with other work.
