What stands out in my mind is that I was able to finish this book when I was finishing literally zero books. I was thoroughly entertained by this novel, and enjoyed experiencing the wealth of and range of emotions and it evoked. It sounded like an equally sweet and disarming story: a young girl reaching out on behalf of her beloved grandmother to right past wrongs. The author has cleverly , actually very creatively, woven their stories together and we learn that they have more in common than the same address .Harry Potter is better reading than this for an adult and so much of the story is stolen from Harry Potter.

I liked this book very much (although it beggars belief that a seven going on to eight year old, Elsa, could be this sophisticated and worldly), it is another from his stable of life and death stories and just being different - a positive trait in Backman standards. Each person is a side story unto themselves and it is fun watching their tales all get woven together.But, via a series of apology letters her grandmother wrote to various people she felt she had wronged, Elsa is sent on an adventurous journey that will enlighten her, challenge her perception of her beloved grandmother, and change the dynamics of her relationship with her mother and other family members, opening a door towards forgiveness and acceptance. I think this should have been marketed to kids around 7 going on 8, so it would never have crossed my path.
