Our carpet and hard-floor test results with this head were a replica of those achieved with the same head on the CX1 Excellence model. Simply put: superb cleaning right up to the skirting edge, with only a few heavier grains of test powder showing on the carpet after a single pass. Pictures of that test can be found here. Adding Miele’s pet-centric rotating brush bar Cat & Dog floorhead to an already excellent tool lineup, the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog PowerLine is arguably the most practical, versatile and best-performing model in Miele’s bagless cleaner range. It’s still a big beast for stairs, the small bin filter is messy, and the cable could be longer – but these are all minor niggles.

The CX1 Cat & Dog certainly lives up to its name and is a superb performer for pet-centric homes. Perhaps in an ideal world we’d have liked a second, smaller air-powered turbo brush tool for pet beds and the sofa – Miele’s own Turbo mini tool, for example – but that’s a minor omission against otherwise excellent cleaning results for homes with pets. Given the sterling performance of both the EcoTeq and SRD floorheads in the other CX1 models we’ve tested, it was little surprise to discover that cleaning results were exemplary with both. Moving around was no hassle at all as the vac moved easily on its castors on all surfaces. The telescopic tube was also a benefit – you can adjust it so you’re moving the floorhead without having to bend uncomfortably. On the downside, I noticed the weight going up and down the stairs, because it isn’t the lightest to carry. How does the Miele Blizzard CX1 rate online? There is no shortage of tools on this top-spec model, although the Comfort PowerLine is clearly leaning towards hard floors and homes without pets. My top choice for the best Miele Vacuum Cleaner, the Blizzard CX1 powerline Bagless vacuum cleaner.

Not having to get dirty digging out dust from the bin too often and not having to remove, wash, rinse and dry out foam filters were both real winning features for us. Yes, some maintenance of emptying the filter bin and cleaning the internal gauzes will be necessary, but much less frequently than typical foam filters. Introducing the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog Pro, featuring a flexible hose connector which enables comfortable, ergonomic handling. The lever action allows the floorhead to be manoeuvred more easily and takes pressure off your wrist.

Furniture – One of the benefits of having a good pet vacuum is that you can clean your furniture with it. If you want to remove dog hair and odors from chairs, sofas and more, you need to make sure the hoover is designed to clean furniture or comes with a suitable attachment. If you ask people who already own a Miele vacuum how long they’ve had it. Most of them will tell you they’ve had it for at least 10 years! Sitting the vac upright is the most space-efficient way of storing it, and there’s a place to hook the floorhead into the machine to keep things tidy, and so it’s a single unit when you come to get it out of the cupboard. The curve of the sizeable suction hose means it does take up space widthways, though, so although it’s not too bulky overall, it does demand storage room. Miele Blizzard CX1 manoeuvrabilityBeside the Comfort Clean button, the control panel sports four power level indicators with graphics depicting increasing power for curtains, rugs, carpets and parquet/hard floors. There are no controls for this on the cleaner, however. That’s handled by Miele’s sumptuous comfort handle with its wireless remote control. Shark make upright vacuums mainly so again have better performance than most of the Miele’s but comparable with the Blizzard CX1.

I would have to say yes, they’ve been tested for a 20-year lifespan and although they only have a 2-year guarantee you can’t argue with that testing. A lot of people who are replacing their Miele vacuums are usually disappointed to have to downgrade from a 1200w motor to a 900w motor. Won’t the suction be so much worse? Alternatively, you could opt for Miele's other bagless cylinder vacuum cleaner range, the Miele Blizzard, which features twice as much capacity, and an extra metre of cable length and has a much more sensible on-body storage system for the attachments. The downside is that it weighs 2.9kg more than the Boost CX1 (8.7kg vs 5.8kg). On an inexpensive rug in the lounge, our two canine assistants did a fine job of scruffling a solid layer of hair into the pile. The mix of short, chunky Labrador hairs and longer, finer Collie hairs create a good test – but proved no match for the CX1 Cat & Dog. It’s nicely low for getting under obstacles and has a complete perimeter of castle-stepped brushes. Spreading your vacuuming power over such a big cleaning area suggests Miele is very confident in the suction power of the CX1.

That all translated into an excellent carpet clean test too. Using a mix of talc, baking powder and carpet freshener on red nylon carpet, the combination of the CX1 Comfort and EcoTeq head produced a clean sweep, quite literally. All of those coolness does come at a cost though, it’s an expensive vacuum, but it actually does as good a job as a regular vacuum cleaner so all you have to do is empty it and you’re house will clean itself.
