The front of the book is very colourful and imaginative. Not so good things: I really enjoyed the book.Tom Gate’s books always have lots of unexpected twists. My favorite part was when Tom and his family figured out that they were staying in the wrong place. It is a really good fiction book.

Tom Gates - Wikipedia Tom Gates - Wikipedia

When Liz was little, she loved to draw, paint and make things. Her mum used to say she was very good at making a mess (which is still true today!). She kept drawing and went to art school, where she earned a degree in graphic design. She worked as a designer and art director in the music industry, and her freelance work has appea More Tom Gates: Top of the Class (Nearly) is the 9th Tom Gates book and follows Tom as he runs for the school council and TRIES to be top of the class. As per usual things don’t quite go according to plan… If only Tom could follow his own TOP tips for being Top of the Class! 1. Stay awake in lessons (it helps.) 2. Don’t draw HILARIOUS pictures of your teachers. 3. AVOID the class bully to stay out of trouble. 4. Don’t let Mum and Dad write ANYTHING in your school planner. . Don’t let your grumpy sister Delia BOSS you around. (Technically not a school issue - but still important.) My thoughts: From the winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Best Book for Younger Readers - Red House Children's Book Award, the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 5 - 12 year-olds and the Blue Peter Best Story Book Award 2013, comes the ninth amazing instalment of this brilliant series! I loved this book. I liked it when Tom lost his drawing of Mr fullerman with a big bum and got scared that a teacher would find it and show it to Mr fullerman and he would get a detention, I found it really funny that they then found the drawing in a book in the library. Great story. Then Derek comes over (he’s in Mrs. Worthington’s class, not mine, because we chat too much). I’ve seen him loads during t he s u mme r. (H i s h a i r h a s grown — h e hasn’t.) I show him my ideas and drawings for a band name. (He likes DOGZOMBIES best . . . me, too.) When Marcus Meldrew barges into our chat. . . . “What’s that?” “Ideas for our band.” “What band?” “Me and Derek are in a band, and we’re thinking of what to call ourselves.” “That’s easy.” “Really?” (Marcus has an idea.) 33

I'm TRYING to get voted onto the school council as well - but thanks to the ABOVE list it's not exactly going to plan. Tom gets into running for school council in this book however when he spots school bully Buster doing graffiti, Tom tells his best mate Derek via drawing and soon things get out of hand as people find out and spread it round. However, I did like how their was a bully in the story. It gave the novel a feeling of realism and something that all kids experience at some point. She’s not looking. She’s ignoring me. . . . I think. So I might as well stop writing nice things now and draw a doodle instead. (This cheers me up.) Marcus by a gets squishedri iantB LL ! MY Favorite! oHooroarya,yH, oHooroarya,yH, ooray! (He’s so annoying.) I show Mom and Dad my story because I think they’ll be pleased with me (for a change). 30

Yo u ' r e Yeah! grounded! THE ENDTop Of The Class (Nearly) is the ninth Tom Gates book and is a delightful read for younger children. I have never read a Tom Gates book before, but I dived headfirst into book 9, incredibly impressed by the fantastic layout of this book. It’s filled with tons of different fonts and different font sizes, there’s drawings of the characters in various situations and it feels like it’s interactive (even though it isn’t). It’s fully immersive and that’s incredible.
