Susan keeps putting the pressure on Greg to do something new other than video games while also introducing him to college. Days later, while Greg is forced by Frank to sort and clean the cabinet that fell, Rowley gains fame from the local news after the movie-making incident, to Greg's annoyance and the rejection of any statements that he had made at the beginning of the book regarding fame. His mom thinks video games are turning his brain to mush, so she wants her son to put down the controller and explore his ‘creative side’. Frank gets mad at Greg for making the mess, and Susan later gets mad, because Greg and Rowley filmed right over a tape of Manny's first steps. However the people that found the balloon were people that didn't have tv or electronic games of any sort.

Wanting Halloween candy, Greg enters a contest at school in which students release balloons with letters attached, and the student whose balloon goes the farthest wins a jar of candy corn. After finishing his chores, Greg goes to eat the giant candy corn that he won but finds that the pig has eaten it. Can he get his mom off his back by making a movie … and will he become rich and famous in the process?

Another book in the franchise with few original ideas which I liked and found funny and was a nice stress buster and overall relatable in a way.
