GO TO KS1 HUB Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind with this type of event like this is an art and craft activity! The little cases are so cute, and they are a self contained portion of cake that you can simply place onto a large flat baking tray, portion the cake mix into the cases, and bake. Like my coronation cake though, you can use whipped cream if you prefer, but I wanted to make a slightly different recipe this time. You can of course make the frosting whatever flavour you prefer – vanilla, orange, almond, chocolate, etc. You could use these activities to get children to understand how the King might be feeling in light of the upcoming coronation when writing letters. This will enable children to explore PSED as they engage in literacy.

Sugar – I used caster sugar as I wanted the colour and flavour to stay light, but you an swap it to light brown soft sugar if you want a more caramel flavour naturally.

It’s the King’s coronation in a few weeks time, so it seems appropriate to start planning the celebrations. Street party? Watching it on TV? Having a lovely bank holiday? Well a few bakes will always be a popular idea. As for the Coronation ceremony itself, this event is rooted in a longstanding tradition. On Saturday, 6 May 2023, King Charles will be crowned alongside the Queen Consort. Plus, on the following day, a special Coronation Concert will be broadcast on the BBC, live from Windsor Castle. What do you need for the big day? Step 1 Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) mark 4 and grease and line a rough 25 x 30cm baking/roasting tin with baking parchment.

These tins are not only good for reusing and housing your tea, coffee or biscuits in, but there are multiple other ways to display these tins like using it as a utensil holder, or adding salt or sugar for a countertop addition. Incorporating some sort of physical activity is a great way to burn some of the energy and excitement that children will naturally feel with the prospect of an extra day off school and an upcoming celebration.

I mix the cake mix like normal; beat the butter and sugar together, add the eggs and flour and lemon extract and mix, and then split between the cases. To be super neat, I used a piping bag, but you can obviously spoon the mix in as well. If you don’t have time to close the road by speaking to your local council, you can run what is called a ‘Street Meet’, says A Plan Insurance. So, if you live in a cul de sac, "councils are generally happy for this to go ahead without permission". If not, use your driveways, parking areas and front gardens. After all, none of these will require council permission - and should be problem-free as long as you "don’t obstruct pavements". Where will the Coronation happen? Eggs – I used medium eggs, but if you have other sizes, weigh them in their shells and then match the other ingredients – get to as close to 400g as possible. The coronation, which will take place on 6 May, is one of the most-anticipated events of 2023. With events planned from the official ceremony to a coronation concert, it's sure to be a moment everyone will remember for years to come.

Why not put your little ones to the test with a relay race – but not any old relay race… In honour of the coronation, why not challenge your little ones to race as fast as they can whilst balancing paper crowns or plastic crowns on their heads! This will not only inject a more exciting element to a great team activity but it will support balance and coordination. You can obviously use a buttercream instead if you want – but I would avoid an icing like on the school cake as that may cause the fruit to run off slightly. A standard buttercream would be 175g unsalted butter mixed with 350g icing sugar. Asda has royally waved at the public festivities with a raft of offerings from its bakery department. Emma Bridgewater has launched a kitchenware collection to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. And, the brand has just announced a 30% discount on the range!

The coronation oath is said by the new King and includes them swearing to govern faithfully with Justice and Mercy. 3. Get active! Literacy is a topic that lends itself quite nicely to various themes. See below for some of our suggestions on how to incorporate the coronation into literacy: Available online and in stores from today (17 April), Tesco’s new coronation range aims to help its shoppers plan a ‘celebration fit for royalty’. Whilst school and nursery classes are not dictated by awareness days in the annual calendar, they can certainly be utilised to make learning a little bit different and raise children’s awareness of what is happening in the world around them. One such example occurring in May 2023 is the King’s coronation! In this blog, we are going to share some ideas of how you can incorporate coronation themed activities into your typical day at school or nursery to support children’s learning and development.

Last time I posted my coronation cake which is light, fruity and a traybake – and I adore it. However, I thought I would post a more bite size cake that would be cute for a table spread, and easier to serve! These mini lemon loaf cakes are ideal. For an even better way to find EYFS resources, discover tailored suggestions, and much more - visit the EYFS resource HUB! GO TO EYFS HUB
