Madoka Kaname is a middle school student at Mitakihara Middle School. She is often characterized as being a very shy, yet exceedingly kindhearted and honest individual. Although her earnest nature makes it easy for her to make friends, some take advantage of her naiveté. Early in the series, she meets Kyubey, a strange cat-like creature who asks her to become a magical girl and, in exchange, will grant her one wish. Despite holding off on having her wish granted, she does eventually become a magical girl. After doing so, she gains much more confidence in herself and constantly attempts to help others in need, even if doing so puts her in harm's way. About Madoka Kaname: Abilities The first time the audience is introduced to Homura, she is seen fighting against Witches in one of Madoka's dreams. Shortly after, the two meet in the real world and Homura explicitly tells Madoka to never become a magical girl. At school, Homura is often described as being cold and distant, yet extremely talented when it comes to academics, sports, and so on. In reality, Homura used to be much less confident in her abilities, but the suffering she went through as a magical girl forced her personality to shift to what it currently is.
