Description

Since the Yankees are so legendary, one assumes that the franchise was successful from the beginning. But far from it. That's because from 1903 to 1918, they came within reach of participating in the World Series only once. Success came with a trade. In fact, with one of the biggest trades in Major League Baseball history. In December 1919, the New York Yankees secured the rights to Babe Ruth. He was to go down in history as the best player. The trade paid off in just his second season in 1921. The Yankees reached the World Series for the first time, but lost to the then New York Giants. This was nevertheless the beginning of an unprecedented success story. Two years later, the team reached the World Series for the third time. Once again, they took the field against the New York Giants. Led by Babe Ruth, they defeated the Giants 4-2 and lifted the World Series trophy for the first time in 1923. More titles followed in the Babe Ruth era in 1924, 1927, 1928 and 1932. Triumph and Slump The championship team of Earls Comby, Babe Ruth, Tony Lazzeri and Lou Gehring went down in history as Murderers Row. Nearly 100 years later, that lineup is still considered the best ever to play in MLB. Over the decades, the Yankees became the most successful MLB team. They reached 40 World Series appearances, won 27 titles, including as many as five in a row in the 1950s. But an institution like the Yankees is feeling today's mass of competition. The team reached its last World Series to date in 2009, and the decade between 2010 and 2020 was the first in nearly 100 years in which the Yankees did not appear in the World Series. Starting a World Brand The New York Yankees are arguably the best-known and also most successful franchise in Major League Baseball (MLB) and have now grown into a global brand. Birth in Baltimore Caps: New York Yankees 47 Brand was founded by the D'Angelo twins in 1947. Since then, 47 Brand caps have only grown in popularity, thanks in particular to their collaborations with various American football teams and the baseball league.
