Powerless is another remarkable book out of Chestnut Springs! I know I’m a rarity but friends to lovers is one of my favorite troupes and Elsie Silver wrote it PERFECTLY with this book! The connection and chemistry between Jasper and Sloane is so good throughout the book thanks to their long friendship! Sloane always had a crush on Jasper but now that she was about to get married it seems more and more that he may like her too. It’s a slow burn romance but that build up made me fall in love with them even more as there were so many small moments showing how much they always just understood what the other needed! Once they finally get together…whew! Jasper is dirty and the romance gets spicy but I loved how Sloane was living for it! From beginning to end, I was addicted to these two characters! These two were both oblivious to each other’s feelings BUT everyone else saw it clear as day and never thought to mention it even as a offhand topic or joke? but now that she ran off on her wedding day and spends time with him they bring it up? Despite the fact these two call each other ''best friends''? It was just too much obliviousness for me from the two of them. And… in case it sounds sweet and emotional, that’s because it is. BUT it wouldn’t be an Elsie book without the steam, and Jasper? You are not ready for Jasper. Trust me. You. Are. Not! They’ve always felt this way for me!” she explodes, arms flung wide, eyes shining with emotion. “And you’ve never noticed. But now you do? What am I supposed to do? Jump for joy and say thank you for blessing me with your interest?”

Taking the risk of making this a cliché by using the title of the book, I was powerless against it. It had me in tears, and it felt like coming home. I have realized something and that is that Friends to Lovers is not my favorite trope...especially if it takes 18 years to get together (okay let’s say 10 years since she was 18). did i have many complaints? depends on who you’re asking not really!!! so i take this as a win in my book 🕺🏽So when my life falls apart on my wedding day, it only makes sense that he's the one to swoop in and save me. Their book was more of a slow burn than I was expecting. These friends who were slightly estranged at the beginning had a lot to work through to be together. I was a bit frustrated by what led to Sloane heading to the altar with a complete twit like her fiancé. He seems so absolutely clueless that it made me think a bit less of her that she let herself end up there.. but that's all part of the journey. If you want to write a book on character development, Sloane would have to be there. The person she is when the book starts is not the same at the end—her heart is still the same, though, and it’s a big one. Big enough to harbor all the feelings she’s had for Jasper over the years, even when he had her firmly in the friend zone. Huge enough to want to help him bear the weight of everything around him. I love her. A reason for me to smile again. A person to talk to after so many years of silence. A love I've never known."

I teared up, I was turned-on, I screamed, screeched like a teenager... I completely lost my shit over Heartless and you will too. Mark my words.when i said i wanted a empty brain and a stupid lil cowboy romance, this is what i meant!! the plot was actually interesting and had a little more to it, which i enjoyed somehow.
