Description

You do get a choice of secret goal cards to work towards at the end of the game, like buying at least seven sun’s worth of gear, but these are so hard to achieve and give such paltry rewards that they rarely figure. Rather, strategy in this game is more about making sure you’ve got opportunities to get what you need. Mostly, these come from canteen cards. You start with one of the former and can gain more on certain spaces: they’re cards that cost one water to activate and get you either extra resources or the chance to exchange resources for other kinds. Spend any 2 tokens to take a Photo, and then take the Camera from whoever currently has it. (Photos are worth 1 point each. When you have the Camera, when any ability lets you spend 2 tokens to take a Photo, you only spend 1 instead.) Create a comfortable, cosy experience for visitors with graceful paths leading through fun and playful scenes that you can arrange using the thousands of themed scenery props available with the base game. We’re just there to help you connect with the people around you,” Key said. “If we made a super heavy game, then they’d walk away saying, ‘I really don’t want to play that ever again.’ I think one of the most fascinating things with Parks, Parks Memories, [and] now, what we’re hoping with Trails, is that people can’t help but sit there and share stories together.” Why do you want these tokens? Remember, you want to buy Park cards. Each of the three Park cards that you dealt during set-up states the number of tokens required to Visit it. They’re worth varying victory points. The more points they are worth, the tougher token requirements, or quantity. I’ll explain how you claim these cards later. But first… Let me take a selfie! Swig Your Water And Take Memories With You

Trails is a two to four player resource management and collection game from the makers of Parks. Similar in theme, this more compact, travel friendly game offers interesting choices, stunning artwork and gentle, well-themed play. Get Up & Go Though the components aren’t necessarily element-proof, I can definitely envision this being played whilst camping or after a long hike, in the comfort and warmth of a fire-lit cabin (or pub!) Its travel friendly size means it has joined my list of holiday games. My Thoughts Alongside this artwork, you get a production value that is second to none. The first player token is a metal token with an enamel finish, itself being a beautiful addition to the game. The wooden tokens are well-produced, with the 12 unique wildlife tokens being a particular standout component. Everything about this game in terms of its looks and quality has been developed in such a beautiful way. I would say to most that this game is worth getting just for the artwork alone, but of course, a board game has to play well in addition to looking good. So, does it play well? At the time of writing, we’re still in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Trips away and idyllic plans got put on pause. We’ve had to cancel holidays, and travelling to far-flung places is a case of fuhgeddaboudit. It’s fortunate then that Parks allows you to visit national parks around the US, from the comfort of your own home. If you’re not familiar with this game already, fear not. I’ll be explaining how to play Parks from set-up to conclusion.

Where next?

As a park manager, you’ll discover how to cater to your audiences and perfect your ride placement, prices, and shops to appeal to each audience. Guests will need to be supported by a specialized staff that you’ll hire and direct. You’ll also get to decide if you want your park to stay within the more grounded and realistic side of the theme park world or leave those limits behind in search of profits! I remember stumbling across the PARKS both (technically the Keymaster Games booth) at Gen Con 2019 and thinking “wow that game is pretty”. My friend then says to me “Oh, that’s PARKS, it’s gamer’s Tokaido“. Consider my interest piqued as I’m a fan of Tokaido even though the gameplay (without the expansions) is a bit too light. Is PARKS the game I had been looking for all along? Fun mechanics, pretty aesthetics, and a great theme… but does it roll up into an amazing game? Time to find out! Gameplay Overview:

Along the trail is a photo stop. When you stop at this point you may take a photograph – this is done in one of two ways. You can either: We (my wife, son and daughter) feel that 3 players is the sweet spot for Parks but 4 players really does work just fine. Nonetheless, the game arrived and I wasn’t sure what to expect so perhaps it was the artwork on the cards or the wooden counters which arrived in their own tree-like dispenser that made me instantly fall in love with Parks. Finally, as the park’s lead designer, you’ll have limitless freedom to customize every aspect of the park. Decorate your park, create themed areas and enjoy the almost limitless possibilities of customization. Gear gives ongoing abilities for the rest of the game, and some also have an instant action, denoted by a lightning bolt. Also stated on the Season card is an effect that comes into play for this first season alone. It could be something such as gaining extra resources in particular circumstances. Or, some Park cards could come with token discounts if claimed this Season. But more about that later! Relight My Fire; That Park Card Is My Only Desire Wildlife tokens (the Bear), are "wild" and can be used in place of another token, except they may not be used to fill Canteens, or as part of exchange abilities (as noted on those cards). Each player is given their canteen, their hiker meeple, one of each resource and one secret badge card that only they will be able to obtain during the game.
