Hooking together 2 Minirigs and the subunit makes a stand-alone 2.1 sound system that remains portable enough to take with you to parties and camping trips. It is an incredibly versatile, well-thought-out system and one that we think has been grossly overlooked by the audio community thus far. Various additions and changes make this speaker more impressive than ever, including a new custom-built 70mm driver with wonderfully deep bass, and a fantastic 100-hour battery life.

It sounds transparent and open with air about it, and the bass can hit seriously hard. All-out sub-bass is not on the level of a full-size speaker, but it blows away anything from B&O or Bose. If Minirig made the Mini dust and waterproof, it would be the best portable speaker you can buy. Unfortunately, for the time being, the Mini is only “splashproof” so you wouldn’t want to take it to the beach. For nearly half the price, the UE Wonderboom is an excellent alternative. No, it doesn’t sound as good as the Minirig Mini, but it’s good enough for most people and can be submerged in up to a meter of water for 30 minutes without biting the dust. Now we come to the point that’s likely to make or break your decision when it comes to purchasing the MiniRig 3. Another bonus when buying a Minirig is that their modular design allows you to effectively daisy chain as many individual Minirigs speakers together as you want. They even let you add a separate subwoofer to achieve maximum low-end grunt.

Sound

There are many things that make the MiniRig 3 well-worth your attention if you’re looking for something compact, durable, and brimming with power. Unfortunately, I have not tested or reviewed the Minirigs speakers with the addition of the, but I would look to doing this in the future. Stand-alone, the Minirigs speaker, has a lot of basses, so I’m not sure without testing whether it would be too much bass with a subunit or make it sound even more impressive. On top of that, you can input from computers, instruments, mixing boards, and many more, without any unnecessary issues. Battery Life Credit: Minirigs

If you walked by the Minirig Bluetooth speakers on the high street, you probably wouldn't have given them a second look. The outer housing is pretty bland, industrial, and to the point. It doesn't come across as funky and unique as the UE Flip or as classy and elegant as the Beoplay A1 from Bang & Olufsen. MiniRig is one of the best-known brands on the market for customers in search of a compact, powerful speaker tech.A well-made chassis combined with high-quality materials and fantastic drop protection makes these speakers stronger than your average tech. You can also expect some water resistance, although we wouldn’t recommend submerging these speakers in too much liquid. T Up to a really decent volume, these sound just great. Clear, full frequency, just really special for the size. Now, when DJing, we all know the tendency is to push things louder and louder. These are small speakers, and so past a certain level, they do struggle. It’s important to point out that they reach this level at quite some volume, but eventually you get there. At that point, the audio gets harsher and the bass is severely curtailed – but there is no real distortion, and the compromises the DSP makes are the right ones. In short, they are the best you are going to get at this size for DJing. With Bluetooth For instance, it’s nice to know that you can link multiple speakers to the same system and create a stereo surround sound effect. The sound on a single Minirig speaker was matched only by the Beoplay A1 in my side-by-side testing. It managed to get louder and maintain a high level of detail before any JBL, Gear4, or Taotronics units started to distort. Even when pushed way past the comfortable listening point, the sound doesn't degrade as sharply as any of those units. The clarity and detail retrieved at normal levels are remarkable for something so small.

Consequently, the Minirig is loud (startlingly so). Though a smart limiter circuit automatically stops the Minirig from damaging itself. That said the real achievement is the audio quality. A. Yes. The Minirig 1 and 2 use a unique analog adaptable eq which has a cleaner sound and zero latency compared with digital DSP in aux mode. The downside of this is that when it adapts to the music (reduces bass at higher volumes) it will "switch" to a different eq setting which can be audible as a quiet "pop". It is not normally noticeable but in high gain and with very dynamic music, it can become apparent. Best known for colorful, resilient, and durable speaker functionality, MiniRig gives you the kind of peripherals you need to perform in any environment.

There is no “pairing” mode as such, as they are always pairable when switched on, and they can remember up to eight devices. In this respect I actually found them harder to use than other Bluetooth speakers, in that I sometimes had to actively pair them to my phone when I wanted to use them – turning them on wasn’t enough. I didn’t always need to and I suspect maybe I’m missing something, although I can’t figure out what! With some of these competitors coming in at an equivalent or even lower price, it means that, in terms of performance for pound, we are left wanting more for a little less. For the rest of this review, as mentioned, we will be talking about the use of 1 single Minirig speaker being used on its own, without being daisy-chained to other units. Essentially we want to look at how the Minirigs perform as a stand-alone portable travel speaker. However, you can use a wiring option instead if you prefer more stability. The wiring connections mean that you can chain as many speakers as you like, without having to rely on Bluetooth. This little device can deliver some sensational power, with 40w of RMS to ensure you fill a whole room in seconds.
