Description

This is a unique book aimed at children ages 7-9 years old -- the idea is for the child to take it outdoors and color in the book as they follow along with a variety of prompts. In a small town in the Pacific Northwest, on the outskirts of the vast Olympic National Forest, a strange girl shows up one day. She is mute and savage, climbs trees with speed and wild dexterity, and her companion is a wolf. Head of police Ellie has her work cut out for her, along with the town Doctor, Max. Ellie calls in her sister Julia to help. She’s a revered child psychologist who has just suffered a serious blow to her reputation. What better time to leave California? Eh. The text box that appears when you hover over the second star in the rating bar describes it perfectly: "it was ok."

The Nightingale is currently in production at Tri Star, with Dakota and Elle Fanning set to star. Tri Star has also optioned The Great Alone and it is in development. Firefly Lane, her beloved novel about two best friends, was the #1 Netflix series around the world, in the week it came out. The popular tv show stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke and Season Two is currently set to conclude the series on April 27, 2023.

This novel was gripping from the start. There was a bit of mystery to it. At times it was quite sad but also beautiful and eye-opening. It was fascinating to learn about the child raised in the wild and how she learned to adapt to her new surroundings. January 2013: Wild was selected as Book of the Week on BBC Radio 4, where a five-episode abridgement of the book was read. [7]

I strongly recommend this to ALL parents. While I'm fortunate to have a child who loves nature as much as I do, I think this book could get even the couch potatoes outside and having fun. May 30, 2012: Oprah Winfrey announced the launch of Oprah's Book Club 2.0 with Wild as its first selection. [3] I also wish the child welfare issues were researched more carefully and were less sensational - if the voices behind this book want the press to stop seeking a scapegoat whenever something terrible or unpleasant happens - it seems the author would try to do the same and honestly examine every side of this fictional story. best books of 2012 – nonfiction - 'Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail,' by Cheryl Strayed". As a parent who tries to achieve as much nature time as possible in hopes of raising a productive and healthy child -- I couldn't have asked for a more FUN and ENCHANTING book.

This book was really good!!!! For me, it was a real departure from the two KH books I’ve already read (The Nightingale and The Great Alone) and I’m sure that’s because it’s one of her older books. Still, it had some hallmarks of these; sisters, scenic location, THE FEELS. Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments Seeking self-discovery and resolution of her enduring grief and personal challenges, at the age of 26, Strayed set out on her journey, alone and with no prior hiking experience. Wild intertwines the stories of Strayed's life before and during the journey, describing her physical challenges, emotional, and spiritual realizations while on the trail. [1] Distinctions and recognition [ edit ] I loved the main character Julia. She is the kind of soul that carries the world on her shoulders. Sensitive, kind yet a bit timid and an introvert. Where as her sister, the supporting character is extremely beautiful and she knows it. A little self centered and man crazy, yet loves her little town where she grew up in and feels a strong bond to her community. I really hate to make this sound so harsh because I do value the ideas here! It's a beautiful book. I just wonder if a 15 year old might enjoy this kind of doodling, etc. more than a 7 year old.a b c Shapiro, Dani (2012-03-30). "The High Road / Wild, a Hiking Memoir by Cheryl Strayed". They will need scissors, pens, paints, tape, glue and a magnifying glass, plus lots of wild materials and their wildest creativity, as this book becomes filled with keepsakes from their own outdoor adventures.
