We would have liked to have seen a higher-resolution LCD screen, though, with the 2.7 inch, 230K fixed screen looking rather under-specced compared to the competition and also the next model up the Canon range. The EOS Rebel T3, or 1100D, is definitely a better product than it's predecessor, EOS 1000D, in the entry level DSLR segment. 12 Megapixel sensor in it seems to be as good as Canon EOS XSi/450D. The previous 7-point AF system has also been upgraded to Canon's standard 9-point system. The camera features HD Movie Recording capabilities @ 720p which were absent on its predecessor. At the core of the 1100D is a nine-point AF system and 63-area iFCL metering system. These have both filtered down from higher specified Canon EOS models. Overall, the 1100D is solid at the core and has been kept simple, offering a good mix of scene modes and basic manual exposure modes. Features in use: Compatibility with EF and EF-S lenses The frame rate remains the same as before, with the 1100D offering 3fps in JPEG format, but the burst now lasts roughly 30% longer, giving up to 820 frames. Up to five raw files can be recorded at 2fps.

The higher the number visible in these images, the better the camera’s detail resolution is at the specified sensitivity setting. Dynamic rangeSitting alongside the Rebel XS (1000D), it's clear that T3 (1100D) is very slightly larger but only by a fraction. The new model eschews the 1000D's textured plastic, instead being constructed of smooth, rather low-density materials. In its standard mode, the colours demonstrate a strong, subtle and natural tone. There is an option to suit every taste in the picture modes, but not too many to baffle the photographer. Overall, I am happy with the colours produced by the 1100D.
