Running repeated brushing cycles on the Series 4, the batteries drained after 1hr 38mins. Brushing twice a day for two minutes, you’re looking at roughly three-and-a-half weeks before you need a recharge. That’s not bad at all, although we’ve seen some Sonic brushes that can keep running for well over a month. Forget about fast charging, though. With the charger supplied, it’s best to charge the toothbrush overnight. Oral-B iO Series 4 review: Should I buy it? The plug on the end of the cable is a 2 pin power adapter (suitable for UK bathrooms). It will recharge the battery in up to 16 hours. Activated when you begin brushing the timer and pacer encourage you to brush the teeth evenly, not paying attention to just the teeth at the front of the mouth. Unlike some brushes, the iO5 doesn’t power off automatically. The pacing is different when using the app Expect about 18 days of use on a full charge of the iO4, assuming twice daily brushing, 2 minutes per time.

For most, this won’t pose any issues, but for those with the most crowded of mouths, you might find it a little more difficult to position the round brush head. I actually achieved up to 20 days in my hands-on testing, which is good, but you could hear and feel the motor slowing a bit once past 18 days. But something you should be aware of is that the pacer is deactivated when using the app in real-time. You don’t get the pauses in the brush motor. Most dental professionals, our in-house team included, only have a couple that they feel are really beneficial: a pressure sensor, timer and pacer. The iO4 has them. The best pressure sensor on toothbrushes today Statistics would suggest that the vast majority of people fail to brush their teeth for anywhere near enough time to maximise plaque removal.

iO Series brushes offer a different brushing sensation to other Oral-B models and truthfully, it is much more pleasant. The iO5 has this, but its sensor is better than most, altering you when you are using insufficient and the correct pressure, rather than just when you are using too much, like most sensors. iO specific heads are required for the iO5. Compared to brush heads you might be familiar with from Oral-B, they are marginally deeper. You’re looking at about a 10 percent difference. If using the app, it will show on the screen if you are using the correct pressure or not. Brush for longer with the help of the timer and pacer Realistically you don’t need so many. Daily Clean is more than enough for most, but sensitive mode is welcomed by those suffering with tender gums. It is too a less intense option for new electric toothbrush users to start out with.

Oral-B’s BEST EVER CLEAN with REVOLUTIONARY iO TECHNOLOGY for a professional purifying clean feeling & gentle brushing experience Able to stand upright on a countertop, it doesn’t tend to roll all that much when laid on a flat surface either.PERSONALIZE YOUR BRUSHING choosing among 4 CLEANING MODES: Daily Clean, Sensitive, Super-Sensitive, Whitening. Cleaning performance is comparable between each with limited evidence to suggest one is better than another. You’re certainly not going to get significantly whiter teeth just by using whitening mode. Cleaning mode icons take some getting used to Activated as soon as you power the brush on at 30 second intervals, the brush motor momentarily pauses. The sound and brushing sensation change. This is your notification to move to the next section of your mouth. Come 2 minutes, the alert is 3 momentary pauses. Hear this and you’ve brushed for the recommended minimum time. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the icons are not all that logical with multiple icons lit for specific modes. You are scored at the end of a brushing session and can see just how well you cleaned each zone. If the teeth haven’t all changed to white, you haven’t done the best job you can. It is a useful tool for encouraging better habits.

And in case you were wondering, more premium iO models are not going to deliver any better cleaning results, the motor is configured in just the same way. Specific heads are required for the iO4. Compared to brush heads you might be familiar with from Oral-B, they are marginally deeper. You’re looking at about a 10 percent difference. On average, they operate at 10 decibels (dB) less. The iO4 registers a maximum of 64dB. But, on the sensitive mode, it was a couple of dB quieter still. Clinical data suggest Oral-B brushes may have the edge in performance, but the reality is few brushes do a bad job if used correctly. So don’t base your decision on this alone. The iO4 electric toothbrush features Oral-B’s best technology, combining a dentist-inspired round brush head with micro-vibrating bristles for a professional purifying clean feel at home. The Smart Pressure Sensor helps prevent you from brushing either too hard or too softly to better protect your gums. Gum Guard alerts you to time spent brushing with too much pressure. Replace your Oral-B iO toothbrush head every 3 months for the best results. Supplied in the box is a charging stand. White in colour, it has a 1.2 metre (4 foot) cable hardwired into it. The plug on the end of the cable is a 2 pin power adapter (suitable for UK bathrooms). It supports 220-240V.
