In short, Samsung appears to have screwed this one up. We’d heard rumors that the brand was trying to add in a new feature where the fingerprint was in the same place as on the S7 (at the base of the phone) but actually under the screen. Both of these are the first ever mobile phone chips to be manufactured on a 10nm process, which promises greater efficiency and potentially faster performance, and both offer the possibility of connecting at up to Gigabit 4G/LTE speeds as and when the networks upgrade.

Although it’s not an essential addition to the Tab S8 for all users, if you intend to do any productivity work with the tablet, the Book Cover Keyboard or Book Cover Keyboard Slim are worth considering. Again, Samsung provided the Slim version for our review, which features an identical keyboard, but drops the touchpad. On the rear of the tablet is a 13MP main camera with a 6MP ultra-wide option for when you need more in your shots. We experimented with this a little during our testing time and the results were what you’d expect for a tablet of this type. None of this is exactly new though, and there's absolutely no reason why you'd buy the Samsung Galaxy S8 for Bixby.

Minor updates for these new Android tablets

It's contextual and interesting, and you can pin your favorite elements (like Spotify, for instance) to the top for easy access from anywhere in the phone. Samsung is pretty jazzed about Bixby, and the fact that it'll be able to understand things contextually in the future. Right now it only can work with a handful of native apps (not even all of them...) and there’s no interaction with third-party options. But from this acorn, Samsung insists, a mighty oak will grow. Like virtually every flagship Android device of 2022, the Galaxy Tab S8 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and it pairs that with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. While digital hoarders or frequent travelers who find themselves away from an internet connection regularly may want to opt for the 256GB of storage, I find that 128GB is the sweet spot for most people. The new 2-in-1 Book Cover Keyboard available for Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S8+, and Galaxy Tab S8. Book Cover Keyboard Slim available for Galaxy Tab S8+ and Galaxy Tab S8. Like the new Galaxy S22 line, all the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 tablets are running the same 4nm Octa Core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon or Exynos, depending on the market).

They’re comfortable, don’t leak sound unduly at high volumes and, depending on how much you care about sound quality, could be all the headphones you need. Although it’s a small thing, it’s good to see such attention to detail from Samsung. Samsung Galaxy S8 review: Display For comparison's sake, we re-ran the battery test with auto-brightness on in mixed lighting conditions, and the drop was only 14%... that still hints that the battery isn't as long-lasting as the Galaxy S7, but there are more pixels to power thanks to the longer display).Samsung delivers again this year, topping the iPad in a number of areas. That includes its nearly 13 hours of battery life, the included S Pen, a dual-camera array, a more affordable keyboard cover, and the powerful DeX mode. You’d expect the Samsung flagship to have the fastest, most advanced internal components available – and that’s most definitely the case here. Us Brits and the rest of Europe get the S8 equipped with Samsung’s very own Exynos 8895 processor, while in the US handsets are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. Adding some scientific measurements to my ocular observations, our colorimeter showed the Galaxy Tab S8 hitting 72% of the DCI-P3 color gamut when in its Natural setting. The iPad Air can smirk for a moment at 79% before the Tab S8 reveals it was sandbagging and jumps to 112% in its Vivid mode.

Finally, to Bixby – Samsung’s much-vaunted AI assistant. Think of it as a counterpoint to Samsung’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri and the Google Assistant. This issue has been increased now that Apple has invested seemingly billions in creating invisible dots that fire into your face to verify your identity the same way... the iPhone X is big competition to the Galaxy S8 as a result. If you’re going to make people switch to an iris scanner by putting the fingerprint sensor out of reach, then make it flawless, not brilliant-most-of-the-time-but-sometimes-not. These screens don’t feel that big considering the Tab S8 Ultra features a 14.6-inch display. But it’s all relative, you may want to opt for a larger screen if you’re after the larger product, or you may prefer to carry a smaller device. Camera and battery lifeDisplay Size: Measured diagonally, Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra's screen size is 14.6" in the full rectangle and 14.5", accounting for the rounded corners. Galaxy Tab S8+'s screen size is 12.4" in the full rectangle and 12.4" accounting for the rounded corners. Galaxy Tab S8's screen size is 11" in the full rectangle and 10.9" accounting for the rounded corners. Actual viewable area is less due to the rounded corners and the camera hole. We tested the rapid charge from dead a couple of times, and found that the Samsung Galaxy S8 can go from no power at all to full in around 80 minutes, with a linear charging curve – so it doesn’t taper off at the end, it's more of a consistent power top-up. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 runs Android 12 with a number of enhancements from Samsung to support the S Pen and deliver superior integration with Samsung phones, smartwatches and earbuds. That would have been perfect, as it’s the way most people fire up the screen anyway. It's a feature that we're now seeing on other phones such as the OnePlus 6T, and which is rumored for the Samsung Galaxy S10.
