Favourites of mine (though all of them were brilliant) included Stoick, who sounded something like Sean Connery's elderly granddad, Fishlegs, whose endless incapacity for piracy brought desperation to his every word, and Camikazi, heir to the Bog Burglers, who had me in stitches every time she appeared. The two lads rescue a tiny yet arrogant nanodragon named Ziggerastica, but then they are kidnapped as part of a vicious plot to steal every dragon on the Isle of Berk! One of my favourite things about these books is the colourfully inventive language that Cowell comes up with - particularly from Ziggerastica.I had watched the movies first and I'm sorry to say, at least so far, I think the movies are much better.

The hilarious exploits of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third - the smallish Viking with a longish name. Having read the first two books to my 6 yr old girl, who loves the film and tv series, we are now on book 3 and loving it. Cressida Cowell is an English children's author, popularly known for the book series, How to Train Your Dragon.I made the scurrilous comment that the first of these was for overly young children - however, they have entertained me and I am still reading them! Hiccup lives in a world where you can only gain respect by being strong and uber masculine, but his other qualities are what saves him and the others constantly.
