This being said I am now concerned that other notes in his bible may not be on point and I am looking for another for him. The prevailing view of what constitutes saving faith continues to grow broader and more shallow, while the portrayal of Christ in preaching and witnessing becomes fuzzy. A typical page has the biblical text in two columns, references in one column underneath, and then notes in 3 columns below that.

The only preacher I can think of offhand who in relatively recent years preached through the entire Bible, OT and NT, was the late W. This second edition of The MaArthur Study Bible is fully updated, redesigned and expanded from the first edition. Because we don’t want you to incur expenditure for which you are not prepared, could you please confirm whether you are willing to pay this charge, if necessary? I would assume this is because of his Dispensational views that the Old Testament is not for us today, but if anyone knows differently please let us know. With regard to reference editions, I've thought for years that I "need" a reference edition with marginal notes.

I don't believe that there is a more comprehensive commentary written with the Biblical texts in existence at this time. These notes are based on John’s verse-by-verse approach to the Bible and nearly forty years of careful study. I loved how the reading plan coordinated stories and chronology as well as alternated Old Testament, New Testament and regularly included the Psalms and Proverbs. This time with the encouragement of Pastor Pat Nemmers at Saylorville Church I used the Five Day Bible Reading Plan by Lower Lights Publications and read the entire Bible in a year!I found that I have fallen in love with scripture as my reading progressed and I continue to learn and grow as a Christian and a man every day. With regard to Lordship Salvation, my understanding is that "The Gospel According to Jesus" (which was the main book in question) was rendered more palatable to its critics with some clarifications on justification in the 1994 edition.

Robert Duncan Culver says Sauer's work was a move back toward the "older premillennialism" and some have argued that it represents an early form of progressive dispensationalism, but Ryrie highly recommended him nonetheless. While there definitely aren't as many notes compared to the NT, I think the OT notes are not quite as skimpy as you suggest. First and foremost, the church must always, without fail, stand upon the unchanging teachings of God, regardless of the cultural environments where we live; then we have the responsibility to transmit the truths of God in such a way that it is understandable to our various cultures. The good part about reading the Bible is having had read it, the bad thing is trying to do it in a book like way, from beginning to end in a time limit, limits the amount of time one can reflect on the content and the Bible is so full of content and reflection. This criticism is made against "Lordship Salvation" because it teaches that "saving faith" includes a commitment/promise/decision/obedience to God to submit to His Lordship.

Imagine a Bible that gives you instant access to all of John’s teaching on the passage you’re reading? We are already hard at work on adding features and improving the app, so be sure to sign in to the app so we can keep you up to date.
