Description

The superior part of the human face extends from the hairline to the inferior margin of the orbit. The lateral margins of this portion extend to the temporal region. The superior part of the face We know a smaller jaw makes you more susceptible to sleep apnea and so it relates to an area Robert Sapolsky has pioneered: the importance of stress. We now know clearly that having your sleep interrupted is a big stressor and can lead to greater susceptibility to infections and diseases. The basic shape of the human face is determined by the underlying facial skeleton (i.e. viscerocranium), the facial muscles and the amount of subcutaneous tissue present. The bottom line of our narrative is that your health and happiness, and more likely that of your children, may be at risk due to habits to which most of us never give a second thought. So here are some of the key questions you could be asking yourself: Flat Face: you have a long and flat face. Your cheekbones are not evident and your jaw is underdeveloped.

Caretakers need to be trained to notice the subtle sign—their gummy smiles—that growth is not progressing in the right direction. (Photo by Gorete Ferreira.) Available evidence points to the jaws epidemic arising as humanity underwent sweeping behavioral changes with the advent of agriculture, sedentism (settling in one place for extended periods) and industrialization. One obvious factor is the softening of diets, especially with the relatively recent invention of processed foods. Also, less chewing is needed nowadays to extract adequate nutrition – our ancestors certainly did not enjoy the sustentative luxury of slurping down protein shakes. One of the best resources explaining why chewing is so important is a book titled Ja ws: The Story of a Hidden Epidemic by Paul Erlich and Sandra Kahn. Gentle lip taping or a soft oral appliance to eliminate mouth breathing and confirm or train (if no obstruction) consistent nasal breathing

How Is Facially Focused Orthodontics Different?

It’s an image that has caused an entire generation to be wary of the ocean ’ s depths: A woman breast strokes at the surface, and a colossal great white shark rises directly below her. Hence, no one cares about a long or short face. What really matters is to have a developed musculature.

In their book, Kahn and Ehrlich make the case that crooked teeth (and braces) are a modern problem caused primarily by eating soft foods, living in confined spaces with allergens and poor posture, including mouth breathing. The authors declare this an epidemic, linking undersized jaws to increased risk of heart disease, hyperactivity, sleep deprivation and other issues that are endemic to modern life. You rely on anecdotal evidence and some clinical outcomes and are upfront about the level of speculation in the book. Why are you talking about this now instead of waiting for more robust studies? As a book, I want to give it 1-2 stars. This does not invalidate the subject's critical importance in long-term health and childhood development/habit formation. Snoring, mouth breathing, soft/processed diet, among other signs may be worth observing and discussing with a health provider (without being a hypochondriac about it).
