Heated airers can look pretty same-y but this John Lewis option stands out from the crowd thanks to one small thing: shoe dryers.

Reviewer Laura Cooke lives in a four-bedroom house in Sussex with her husband and two kids, aged four and six. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I don’t actually mind that it takes up so much room, because I find it even heats the surrounding air, doubling as a low power radiator. FOLDABLE AND COMPACT: When not in use, the BLACK + DECKER 3-Tier Heated Electric Airer easily folds down for compact storage.

They come in all shapes and sizes, and once plugged in, their electric rails heat your washing, meaning your towels, sheets and clothes will be ready to be put away in no time. Yes, I know we’re talking about a clothes rack here – but the Dry:Soon felt like it had been well thought through. Our clothes took four hours to dry with the odd cold patch remaining on some items – but overall, it was effective and will undoubtedly transform your laundry drying when the mercury falls.

Instead of wrapping delicates in towels and balancing them precariously on the bathroom radiator, or hanging dresses up in the shower to drip-dry, an electric airer means you can just wring them out gently and lay them flat to dry. Not only is a heated airer far kinder to your garments than tumble drying (it adds years to the lifespan of your clothes), it’s also better for the environment. I tried a variety of heated airers including pods, heated airers with wings and tiered heated airers. As with all of these airers, it arrives assembled - so all you need to do is simply fold it out, plug it in and switch it on.Our experts at the GHI put a range of models to the test, timing how quickly our loads of laundry dried, monitoring exactly how much electricity each airer used and analysing how easy they were to set up. Manufacturers don’t recommend leaving any electric heated products unattended but in practice, this is how most people use them. It’s tall enough for hanging long items like trousers and towels, and the adaptable rungs mean you can lay up to six jumpers flat for speedy drying. If you’ve got a lot of washing, you need a lot of hanging space and there aren’t many that can hold 20kg – that’s about the same as a five year-old child. Due to this, we would strongly advise against pre-booking/making payment for third party trades to build/install your item until you are in receipt of and have inspected the goods.

Although it’s not quite as small as it appears online – it stands 4ft 4in high – this is one of the best choices for a student’s bedroom or a small flat, since it collapses easily into a three-inch thick pallet that can be stowed under a bed or sofa. This is not intended to be a full statement of your rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. With a generous drying area of 18m² across 3 racks, there’s 30 rails and 4 shoe rails providing ample space for a full load of . However, if the lack of a timer is bothering you, you could always invest in some plug-in timers (I use these ones at home - they’re great for Christmas lights too!Once these had been removed, I unfolded the sides and the shelves one at a time before using the attached plastic brackets to hold them securely in place. Easy to use and foldable for convenient storage when not in use, it's perfect for smaller spaces and will dry a full load of washing quickly thanks to its heated aluminium bars. With running costs of just 9pence per hour it is proven to be a more cost-effective solution than using a tumble dryer. There are no fancy features on this airer - no timer, no special heated shoe rack to warm slippers and dry wellies - but it is a good, solid, dependable model that dries clothes quickly. The dryer does stand quite wide when set up, at 66cm, which is a little wide for my small apartment although it folds completely flat which is handy for storage.

I’ve found the trick with drying delicates is lying them across the bars rather than hanging them over and risking stretching. A great value design resembling a more traditional airer, this dried our clothes within two and a half hours and our bedsheets in one hour forty.I was really impressed with the speed and efficiency of the Black + Decker airer and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, especially to anyone taking their first steps into the world of heated airers. Clothes on uncovered rack dryers should be moved around, since the areas in contact with the heated rails will dry faster. You might find they get a bit bashed up with frequent use, which is a shame on a relatively expensive dryer. It fared better with bedding (dry in two hours twenty minutes) than with clothes, which took four hours exactly.
