NUK Baby Bottles are made from different materials. The greatest tangible difference is between glass and plastic – both materials are very suitable for baby formula and breast milk. Here you can find some points to help you make your decision. Whether a natural product or a special synthetic material, all NUK Teats are soft and adapt to the inside of a child’s mouth. Of course you can also switch between teat materials. In case you are unsure of which material is better for your child, you can let your child decide too: many accept only the one but not the other. An asymmetrically-shaped soother helps babies and toddlers to exercise their mouth and jaw muscles. However, if a soother is just in a baby´s mouth, not being “used”, it should be removed.

Generally speaking, all teats, whether they are made of silicone or latex, should be replaced every 1 to 2 months.

For safety and hygiene purposes we recommend that you replace teats after 1-2 months of use or whenever they start to show signs of wear. Prior to sterilisation we recommend using the NUK Baby Bottle Cleanser, it’s natural formula removes dried on milk protein, pulp and juice residues more effectively than hot soapy water alone. Glass is the classic material for drinking containers – and also for baby foods. Today, with its higher scratch resistance, glass is a particularly resiliant and environmentally-friendly material. NUK only offers products made from borosilicate glass, which, with its cross-linked surface structure is particularly heat-resistant. Thanks to the high level of transparency of the glass you can easily see if there is any milk or other residue still there when cleaning the bottles. The high heat-resistance means you can clean the glass baby bottles as often as you like and even boil them. And should you give older children tea or juice in them, then the glass of the bottle does not discolour. However, plastic is neither as heat-resistant as glass and nor as scratchproof. When the bottles are scratched inside, you should replace them, as germs can settle in the scratches more easily.Bottles made from polypropylene have a milky transparency, are particularly sturdy and can even be used for freezing food. Baby bottles made from polyamides look the most like glass bottles as they are highly transparent. Both synthetic materials are of course BPA-free. For decades, NUK has studied the shape of teats in every detail, developed it further and continuously adjusted it based on the latest medical findings. This has resulted in the healthy training of all mouth functions and as natural a sensation as possible. Hygiene

A “healthy” sleeping environment is important: the best place is cuddled up in a baby sleeping bag, on a firm mattress, in the baby’s own bed, in the parents’ bedroom. Babies should not be dressed too warmly – an additional blanket is normally unnecessary – and the room should be aired regularly.Before your baby uses a new NUK Soother for the first time, you should use a gentle washing-up liquid (e.g. the NUK Bottle Cleanser) [[DEEP LINK]] ) to thoroughly clean it and then boil it for approx. 5 minutes. If the food is too hot, the normally blue indicator will turn white. Ideally, the food for feeding should have body temperature (37°C) and corresponds to the mean blue tone on the display. To sterilise bottles and teats we recommend using steam, cold water sterilisation or a NUK Steam or NUK Microwave Steriliser. We do not recommend dishwasher sterilisation as this can cause material damage. Babies smoke too – during pregnancy and afterwards as well. Please do not smoke. The risk of cot death increases with every cigarette smoked in your house! children who go to sleep with a soother have a much lower risk of cot death. However, the specific reasons for this have not yet been completely researched.
