Description

The fabric and batting of this quilt are both 100 percent cotton, so it’s super soft and cozy without being overly heavy. Most sleepers will find that it has a good weight for colder nights, but if you sleep hot, you may want to opt for a cooling comforter instead. This quilt is also large enough for proper snuggling—L.L. Bean does not skimp on fabric when it comes to their bedding. Blanket hoggers will have lots of fabric to curl up in at night without leaving their partners in the cold.

If you're open to splurging on a luxurious bed cover, the Serena & Lily Baywood Quilt is a great option. Made with a linen-cotton fabric blend, we found this quilt to be soft and welcoming. It has a medium weight that's warm enough for cold winter nights but also breathable enough for the summer months (that is if you choose to sleep with it). Quilted draperies became decorative and functional. America began its love affair with quilting in the mid-1800’s as women had more time to quilt. Young ladies were expected to have several quilts made prior to getting married. The hand-quilted design offers textural interest while still remaining endlessly versatile. We also appreciate that there are over 20 colors available, ranging from navy to jade to crisp white. Different sizes are also available to suit almost any bed. This quilt doesn't carry any key certifications, but all things considered, we think the price is right on point. The best tool to use would be a rotary cutter as you can press down on batting and get a straight cut. Just make sure the rotary cutter has a sharp enough blade in it. Sharp scissors are another option and should be able to keep your edges neat and clean.

Some quilters refuse to hand quilt because they think that working with a small needle would prove too difficult. A lot has changed since the days when quilters only used “between needles”. West Elm's Tencel quilt is best suited for hot sleepers or people living in warmer climates. You can pair it with a duvet or blanket for more warmth, but you may not like its cool touch if you run cold at night. Tencel also has a sheen, so you may want a cotton or linen quilt if you prefer matte bedding. But for those who like to be as cool as a cucumber in their sleep, this quilt will keep you at a perfect temperature throughout the night. This bedspread is lightweight and breathable yet warm, making it an ideal choice for year-round use. It lays flat and smooths out nicely on the bed, offering a beautiful drape. You can use it in place of a traditional comforter or as an additional layer to your existing bed cover during the chilly season.Pact’s Quilted Comforter features a sateen weave, which brings a lustrous finish to your bed. While it is machine-washable, it does wrinkle easily, so we recommend removing it from your dryer promptly to stave off creases. In the instance that the knot come through to the top try to repeat the first couple of steps. Try not to tug so hard on the knot. Modern quilters use larger needles and have developed hand quilting techniques called “utility” stitches to accommodate the larger needle. Care instructions can range based on the materials and construction of your quilt, so always consult your manufacturer’s recommendations before washing your quilt. Motnyk advises to “[choose] washing machine-friendly pieces” if you know you’ll need to be laundering your quilt more frequently. Fortunately, most quilts can be machine washed and tumble-dried, but bedspreads that incorporate silk and wool typically need to be dry cleaned. When in doubt, you can always hand wash your quilt by soaking it in your tub with a mild detergent.

Quince’s cotton quilt is GOTS-certified organic, so you can rest assured knowing that it’s made from the highest quality materials. It’s also machine-washable and can be tumbled dry, so cleaning your quilt is as breezy as your new bedding. If you eat in bed or are prone to spilling things, the white fabric of this option might suffer a stain or two. You may have to spend more time spot cleaning your quilt to keep it pristine, but given its quality and affordability compared to other organic quilts, it’s worth the extra care. Bamboo Batting –eco-friendly, natural fiber. (Typically blended with Cotton which makes it great for breath-ability.) This Maple Leaf quilt was made with Bamboo Blend batting and the texture of the quilting as well as the drape of the quilt are amazing, even for a quilt that is densely-machine-quilted. Whether you sleep hot or have to bundle up at night to keep from getting too cold, the best quilts can improve the quality of your sleep and turn your room into a cozy, inviting space. A quilt can be used on its own or paired with a comforter for extra warmth, and it can come in various styles and weights, but with so many options on the market, finding the right one can be overwhelming. Be careful when choosing patterns that have long straight lines. Although they are easy to quilt with a running stitch, any stitches that are crooked are easily seen. We alluded to the 4 different categories of batting earlier and these categories are further split into 2 different types of batting processes. There is the bonded style that uses a resin to stop fiber migration.Quilts are weighed in grams per square meter (GSM) and come in three weights: light, medium, and heavy. Motnyk says “the higher the GSM of filling in the quilt, the warmer it is.” According to her expertise, a lightweight quilt is around 200 GSM and is best suited for summer use. A medium-weight quilt will be around 300 GSM, which is perfect for autumn or spring weather. A heavy-weight quilt is typically 500 GSM and will keep you warm in the winter. This quilt is filled with cotton and uses box stitching to create a clean pattern on your bedding, which gives it a lightweight feel. The outer lining is microfiber, a soft and durable material that’s less prone to wrinkles but traps in more heat than cotton or linen. With this in mind, we recommend that hot sleepers consider other quilts, as they may find this one too warm, especially during the summer. Cotton blend batting (usually 80% cotton/20% polyester). Very similar to the cotton option, but a cotton poly blend is less-expensive and doesn’t shrink as much. Good for machine quilting. This is what I use most often. This linen quilt is made in a Fair Trade facility, and each piece is filled with recycled polyester batting. The exterior features a 100 percent linen shell sourced from high-quality European flax fibers. The simple square quilting pattern is endlessly versatile, and you can expect the linen to get softer with every wash. Quilts are practical bed covers that provide extra warmth and tie together your bed styling. And while you may think of quilts as having a more traditional look, today, there are plenty of other styles to choose from—whether you prefer a minimal aesthetic or a more bohemian-inspired design.
